What to do with Scrap
« on: May 24, 2011, 01:17:42 PM »
My investigator had to search through the junk for one of her cases, now she has all this scrap.  Is it sellable somewhere?

Thanks!!

Hi there, and welcome to the forum!
Actually, scrap has an even better function: it can be used either as material to make inventions or to feed simbots, if you have any.
To make inventions you need to drag them to the invention table. If your sim is running out of scrap, he or she can't make any invention at that time, so you can either dig for it, or buy it. How you get it doesn't influenced the product your sims are making however.

It's also needed for metal sculptures until you can sculpt for free. Oh and welcome to the forums!

Thanks everybody!  I guess I'll just hang on to it.  I don't have an inventory or sculptor in this game yet.

Esther, your signature cracks me up...a family oriented, hopeless romantic with commitment issues???  LOL...too funny!

However, if you want to sell the scrap, just drag it from your inventory to the sale box.  It's worth $10 per piece, I believe.

In my experience, scrap is worth §2 per piece.

Maybe the value decreases over time? I don't remember the exact value of it but it was definatly above $2,- per piece.

Scrap is mainly meant to be used for inventions. While it can be used for another Ambitions skill - Sculpting - be sure to have a shower near your sculptor if (s)he is going to work with metal (scrap). (S)he may catch fire!
Scrap is also a nice way of moneymaking. It can also be found by rummaging in neighbors' trashcans, using the Miner, detonating objects.

No, it is only $2. If it was 10 you would only need 100 to get $1000, so it would see unfair. It is a nice way, though. Blow up some Sloppy Jalopies to get tons of scrap.

True there.  Oh, that would make a sweet challenge idea.  Then only way you can make money is by selling scrap until you get to x-level in the inventing skill.  Then you can sell your creations too.
