Thanks Pam! I'm glad it actually qualifies as modern. My modern houses usually turn out looking more and more traditional the longer they take to create.

Ausette, what I did was build the exterior walls of the house minus the foyer. Then, off to the side, I lowered the ground 2 "stairs", flattened a section down and build a wall in the hole. This makes the top of this wall 2 "stairs" above ground, or 1/2 the height of a normal wall. Then I used the constrain cheat to lower the external house walls down to the height of the wall in the hole (the lowered exterior walls now form the "foundation" of the house.) Next, I built the 2 exterior foyer walls which maintain their original height allowing for placement of doors and windows. At this point the foyer walls are higher than the house/foundation walls.

Then, I built the first floor by adding walls on top of all exterior walls ("foundation"), all the way around. It takes some fiddling and patience to get walls on top of the slanted sections but it's doable. Then, I lowered the second story foyer walls down to the same level as the rest of the second story (which is technically the first floor of the house.) Then the constrain cheat got turned off. Now, with the placefriezes cheat on, I added a frieze to the top of the foyer walls. Tada!

What a lovely house, lilygirl.  The back patio area looks wonderful: loving the levels both there and from the foyer up to the living area.  I'm looking forward to seeing it in game and will be so envying the sim that gets to live in it.

I've chosen this house for one of my Lives of Barnacle Bay stories, so thanks, it looks good. I just have to add another bedroom :)

I'm honoured, Pally! I think there might be just enough room to add a set of stairs in the kitchen, along the wall adjacent to the second bedroom. A second story shouldn't be too hard to add.

Or I could build you another house. One with 3 bedrooms.

Hehe I'm glad it turned out to be your house I chose - I did think it was the best smallish modern house on the swap shop. I'll play around with it for adding the third bedroom, but thanks for the tips with the stairs, and I'll be changing some furniture to accommodate the family, but nothing too drastic. Just have to hope that the family I have in mind have enough cash, so I might have to get rid of some expensive items, maybe. Should get on to it this week sometime :)

@ Pally: I didn't pre-depreciate this house so if you place it and have another Sim move in, hit play for just a second, the value of the lot should decrease as the furnishings depreciate. Then have that Sim move out and move your family in.

This one is going to get a good test for a sim of mine with said sizeable inheritance soon. I love the design and am totally awed - I could never do anything that good!

Edit: I love it. Feels very real and fits my sim well.
