Expansions

Sorry for this stupid question ???...I have the World Adventures Expansion and the Ambitions Expansion.  Can you only play those one at a time or once you download them you can access both of them in one game?  Does that even make sense?  :-\

Yes, it makes perfect sense.

You cannot play them "separately," per se.  They are not actually different games.  They are optional parts of the same game.  Once installed, they add new things that all sims can do, even if they existed prior to installation.

Hi Allie. No question is stupid. Different expansions install different content. But, you can definitely access all expansion content at the same time in a game. For example, my Sim could be living in a Bridgeport high-rise apartment (Late Night) and my Inventor (Ambitions) makes a call to go on vacation (World Adventures).

Welcome to the forum. :)

Thanks everybody!  For some reason I was thinking you had to have the expansion disc in your DVD drive to play and I couldn't wrap my brain around how you would play with all the different expansions.

Allie you thought right ;).  You do need to have the most recent expansion (EP) or stuff pack (SP) disc in your DVD drive in order to play.  You need to install all CD's on your computer with the most recent being the last one you install.  Make sure you also download all patches as you go along.

The EP's and SP's came out in this order as follows:
Sims 3 Base Game (EP)
World Adventures (EP)
High End Loft (SP)
Ambitions (EP)
Fast Lane (SP)
Late Night (EP)
Outdoor Living (SP)

So if you only have World Adventures and Ambitions, then you would need to have the Ambitions disc in your DVD to actually play the game with all of the contents of the base game and those two expansions as Metro mentioned.  I know there are some workarounds for not having the disc in your DVD drive and I believe one is actually mentioned somewhere in this forum but I am not sure where.

Yes, thank you for this information! I have been wondering about this myself and you have just clarified everything for me.  :)

Good question/subject/thread Allie0563! (Don't ever think any question is stupid, chances are there are many other players with the same question on their minds as well). Thanks!

The order of the actual installation doesn't matter for Sims 3, but it did for Sims 1 and I think Sims 2.  But regardless of the order you installed them, you will still need the most recently released disc.

For example:  If you had the base game and Fast Lane Stuff, you would need to use the FLS disc.  If you then got World Adventures, Ambitions and High End Loft Stuff, you could install them however you choose to (and it won't cause any issues), but you would still be using the Fast Lane Stuff disc since it's the most recently released expansion of the ones you have.  However, if you then got Outdoor Living Stuff, you would have to use that disc instead of the FLS disc, since OLS is more recent.
