Are there other premade families?
« on: November 11, 2013, 08:01:37 AM »
So I am using, or going to start using, an empty world.  No families.  I see in my library there are...5 or 6...premade families that I can drop into the town pretty easily.  My question is, are there other downloadable premade families like this that I can add to my library.

I know that each town has "townies" but I have read that moving them to the library and putting them in different towns can mess things up since they lose all their contacts and stuff.  Is that really a big deal if moving to an empty town?  Can I just copy/paste families from various other towns into my library and then drop into my empty town?

Or is it just better to not drop any families in and just let the game generate them?

Personally I'd go with saving premades to the bin, yes they lose contacts but that isn't really that important it's a fresh empty town so nobody will know anybody outside their house anyway.

Saving them to the bin they will keep their skills which could be handy, you could then once you have placed a family play them for a few minutes to get them jobs or leave it to story progression but if you are using EA's version it might not give them a job.

The biggest downside in my opinion of letting the game fill the town on it's own is you will get a town full of badly dressed sims all with the exact same face, unless you are using something like Twallans story progression which can add more varied sims and it will also assign them jobs suited to their traits or lifetime wish.

There are a lot of interesting premades in each town, you could really make a nice place with families you like by using the original townies, if it was me that is definitely the way I'd go about it.

So it doesn't cause problems that their friends and stuff are not in the same town anymore?  Like I said I had just heard that it was not a great thing to do that it could "break" the game after a period of time.

I understand about the EA progression, I did that with Jericho (the town I plan on playing) and the sims looked ridiculous and seemed to have no real lives or families.  I didn't use Twallan's story progression at the time but use it now.  If I were to leave it empty but use Twallan's would I still get mucked up sims or does Twallan's truly do it properly?  I mean I would like to see real families in there after some time and I have been told Twallan's will do that, make proper families, get them married, have kids and so on.

So of the two reasonable choices...using Twallan's story progression or importing premade families from other towns (after copying them to library)....which is likely to give me the best results over time with fewer problems?  If I import the sims, and also use Twallan's, will the story progression fix any "problems" that might come up from taking sims out of one town and moving into another?

Basically when you save a family to the library and put them in a new town other than within the household the relationship panel is wiped clean, those friends they had before no longer exist to them, any family left behind no longer exist to them either and won't show up on the family tree anymore.

For example say you moved the Goth's to a new town, Cornelia will no longer have a sister (Agnes), Cornelia and Gunther will no longer have parents in the family tree as the graves of them do not exist, Mortimer will never have met Bella.

If you are not adverse to using Twallan's mods you might wish to look at Porter, if you packed the Goth's using that Agnes and the ghosts would be packed also, when you arrive at the new town and unpack them the family tree would be intact, now you could also pack up the Bachelor family with the Goth's and Mortimer would still be best friends with Bella. I think it might also put them into the jobs they had as well.

Overwatch and Errortrap would probably find any errors with imported families but I've honestly never had any from sims I've saved to the library.

Twallans sp is very adjustable, there are quite a few different settings for immigration you can play around with to get your town populated as you'd like it, and yes it will get sims married and have babies, find them jobs and actually advance them in their careers as well, it's very good.
