Moving multiple houses into one Neighbourhood
« on: January 06, 2010, 07:27:43 PM »
Hey everyone,

I'm incredibly new here, and have to thank you for creating this website, I've been playing the Sims for years, and stumbling across this website today has just made me realise how much more I can do with my Sims!

I'm sorry if my question has been asked before, or is fore-head smackingly obvious and I'm being dense, but I'm having difficulty working out how to play more than one family in a neighbourhood. I've noticed that you all seem to be posting about generations of sims, but are they all in the same neighbourhood, and if so how?

I appear to be only able to play one family in each neighbourhood & so my created sims are never meeting.

Thanks x x

I'm not EXACTLY sure what you're asking, but I think this should answer your question.

You can only play one household of 8 or fewer sims at one time in each saved file, or neighborhood. However, you can create as many saved files as you want. You can also change the household within that saved file such that you can put multiple families of your own creation (or by any device control any household or edit the neighborhood) and then change your focus to another household such that each family can interact with one another (although you will only be able to control one of them).

In general, these different legacies and families that people talk about are usually created in separate save files so that they can play the same neighborhood and same situations but with different families so as to create a standard (or just in order to play multiple families without the other families aging up or doing things via story mode).

Sorry if that was confusing. I speak in a strange syntax.

Hi Milly!  Welcome to our forum!

I think I can clarify some of this for you.

When people are talking about generations and legacies, they are playing one family in the town for a long time.  There's a popular challenge in which you have to get your family to the 10th generation while following a lot of rules and restriction.

If you want to play different families in the same town, you have to switch your active family through the Edit Town function found on the Main Menu.  You can create other Sims to play in the same town or you can play existing Sims.  The catch to this is that when you leave one family to play another, the first family will continue without you.  They may get married, have babies, get jobs, etc.  When you switch back to the first family, it can be very different.  You also lose all of the promised wishes when you switch active families.  And you lose the food in the refrigerator.  However, your second family can interact with your first family, which is fun.

I hope this helps!

Thank you both very much! I think I may try this Legacy thing, normally I'm such a cheat when it comes to playing and it might be nice to actually play properly!

Thanks x x
