How can I tell if a new patch has come out?

Hi,
I'm getting The sims 3 generations on friday and reading some reviews from the internet it says some people have been having problems playing the game due to not being able to update it or something?

Anyway, Will my Sims 3 game launcher tell me when the new patch is out? On the game updates? Or, will I have to find it on the EA site?
I've never experienced a new patch before because I've not been playing for long.

Your launcher should tell you. Either it will have a pop-up telling you to update your game or, if you click on the Game Updates button (bottom left), it will tell you if your game is the most current version or if you need to update.

Mine didn't tell me anything just now but I am currently downloading Generations from EADM so that might be why.

Unfortunately, the problem is that when downloading the game you don't actually get the new patch.  My sister just downloaded it and it won't install saying her game is incompatible but there is no update/patch to be had via her launcher.  This is a big issue on the main forums right now with a lot of people experiencing it.

My game is patching of it's own accord right now. However, has anyone tried following the bypass launcher work around? It's on the Sims 3 help site.



Addition to my post: I just registered Generations. Now I'm trying to install my registration rewards. This is after patching. Now it alerted me Late Night needed to be patched, then OLS, and yes we are going down the line. What on earth is this patch up too?
