Can you upgrade buildings on the ps3 version?

Yes, you can. There are several locations you can invest in. Usually, the option is available through the Real Estate item in the computer or the cell phone menu; or by clicking on a business in the Town Map and selecting Become a Partner. Once you've invested in a property, you can upgrade the buildings. The upgrades increase the amount you receive every week for being an owner. These can cost quite a bit of money (between $18,000 and $100,000 Simoleons) for a sometimes modest gain in weekly money. For most families, however it is more than enough to live on.

Edit: oops, it appears I was wrong. You can invest in the buildings and buyout the partners to become full owners, but you can't make any improvements. Sorry if I confused anyone, heh.

The only "building upgrade" I've seen in the PS3 version is the ability to rename the business. I've owned ALL business and have over $100,000 and never got an option to upgrade, just to collect money.

You're right. I was wrong up above when I said the buildings could be upgraded. You can only just buy the partners out.

Now that I think of it, improvements were added in the Ambitions expansion on the PC version. Hopefully, we'll see some of the options added in either with patches or expansions on the console.

I don't know anything about the ps3 version of the game, but in the pc Sims 3, there is a distinction between Buildings and Properties.  Buildings cannot be upgraded.  Properties can be upgraded.  If memory serves, I believe that's something that was added with the Ambitions expansion pack.

Mrs. Flynn and I have both the PS3 and the PC version. It sometimes gets confusing since we have all of the expansions for the PC, heh.

I am not sure what you meant exactly, but in the Xbox 360 verison you can update building by maxing out career levels in certain careers such as Journalism, Political, Music, et cetera. When you update the buildings you get challenge points and you get a more updated version of the building. I think the newer updated ones are rather pretty. I'm not sure if you can do these same things on the one for PS3, but you could probably look under your Challenges & Rewards section, and if its anything like the Xbox 360 it'd be under Life Challenges.

No you can't do it on the Ps3.

Actually, you can.

Look at the Hometown Hero section of Challenges (near the bottom of the Life list in the Challenge Panel). You'll have to reach the top of a few careers in order to upgrade the buildings. For instance, you can upgrade the bistro and the bakery by reaching level 10 of the Culinary career. Or the bookstore by reaching level 3 in the part-time Clerk position. There are 16 total buildings that can be upgraded. Each individual challenge nets a small amount of Challenge Points, and the completed Challenge is work 150 points.

Part time jobs also do the same. I've seen a loading message say "get promoted to the third level of the everfresh supermarket and the supermarket will get an architectural upgrade and you will get x number of challenge points

I stand corrected! Do the buildings actually change or do you just get the challenge points for it?

Yes the buildings will actually physically change. I've only been able to update the music, journalism/business, and city hall buildings, and I'm working on the cooking buildings. But the updates are awesome. City Hall actually become a capital building after you update it, its pretty awesome looking, and that is just one of the updates I've seen. But they all become much more pretty.

It's funny on how I started to wonder if the console career buildings could be upgraded. It all started with a glitched image on the loading screen. I made a sim in the Criminal Career track and one work day the image of the building in the loading screen was different. It had a white little building on top and the building itself looked brand new. I thought it was something that was part of the PC version and they just forgot to take those images out or something. But it did peek my interest on whether or not it was possible to change it on the console. So I kept getting higher and higher in my career but the building never changed...until today that is. xD I got promoted to Master Thief and was off the day after that so I didn't notice the building at all. Until I was running late for work and I ran there from the gym and as I got closer to the building I notice a the star medallion above the door which made me pause the game and do a double take. I zoomed out and the building looked exactly like the picture I saw! xD I'm SO happy! It's SOOOO pretty too. All the windows are fixed and everything.

So I did a search to see if this happens to ALL career buildings and found this thread. xD
Another thing, this glitched imaged happened when I was going to the Bistro as well. That image had the restaurant all brick and it had a 2nd floor. The fountain was gone too. So I can't wait to do that with that building as well.

The odd thing is, I've mastered Science (on another sim) and became a Mad Scientist but I don't remember that building looking different. I guess it wasn't as easy to tell the difference, unlike a dilapidated building with a big broken neon sign on the roof. xD lol

Also, the Research Facility across the science lab is a pool in the loading image when visiting that area. I'm sure it doesn't change to that but does anyone else get that as well? I think that happens in another area as well.
