How Random are Collectibles
« on: March 28, 2011, 04:17:32 PM »
I'm curious if others find Angelweed behind the Jacoban Church and Sagewort down by the Docks. It would be helpful to know this during the writing process. My Wizard went a long time without finding that Sagewort.

Sounds familiar - is there Nightshade for you just to the right of the cave entrance?

Yes, and more specifically: Nightshade, Wildflowers, 2 Electrum and Ferrous.

Angelweed in all of my kingdoms so far has been
- one on the road to the forest about where the wall goes up once you have a smith and knight
- one behind the kingball court
- one on the hill that eventually will overlook the tavern
- one on the back right corner of the Peteran church
- one to the back right corner of the Jacoban cathedral

Sagewort in all of my kingdoms so far has been
- one on the tip top of the hill next to the Peteran church
- one around the corner from this hill between it and the path to the forest
- one up a little hill from where the market sits between the market and blacksmith house
- one next broken cart on the field where training grounds and kingball court are
- two on the cliff to the left of the Jacoban cathedral
- one on the cliff to the left of the wizard's tower
- one on the cliff by the ocean/dock

Also if you discover something but don't collect it, my next quest it needs to be discovered again.  The flowers on the hill where the lighthouse goes (by the docks) is always belladonna, wildflowers, valoroot and lordleaf right next to where the lighthouse goes as well as the sagewort.

edit: missed a spot

I believe the Earthy trait is supposed to help you find "better" herbs.  Something that I noticed was that usually, only one hero has to Discover, and then any other heroes automatically know what that is -- except that sometimes they don't, and when they Discover the plant, I think it becomes a rarer type of herb.  That definitely needs to be tested more or confirmed by someone else.  But if that's right, then I would think that's the Earthy trait coming into play.

I do know for sure that the Electrum that is by the cemetery isn't Electrum for all my heroes.

EDIT: @Ricalynn- Well I guess that's my problem, then!  I'm not collecting the herbs every time.

So - I guess they're not random at all but more like trees in the Sims 3 instead of mineral/gem spawners.

I didn't have an earthy blacksmith or wizard this time around and my mining nodes by the cave/graveyard still came out 2 electrum and 1 ferrous.

I wish there was a better way to get a map overview so that you could mark them like we do for TS3 but there isn't from what I can see.

Well, I believe (!) you'r eon a wrong track here -it might yield more if you have the trait but it does not change anything into something else. The problem with discovery is that not every class can discover everything, So - a normal character can only find wildflowers, the spy can find anything flowery - as can the healer, the blacksmith and the mage can find anything rocky. And I have never had my mage find something else in a pile where my blacksmith discovered something. I actually started my mage much later than my blacksmith and she went to the same spots to get those elusive mana stones and rich mineral deposits, etc.

Yes, thanks for that detailed list Ricalynn. That's going to help a lot of people. Those two were the hardest for me to find. So Earthy doesn't change the herb type, but instead throws on some extra -- possibly rare -- herbs when you collect them...

That's what I'm thinking.  I also have a list of all my nightshade spots if anyone wants the Poison achievement.  Took my earthy spy like 3 days to get the 50 he needed.

edit:  I'm inclined to say that earthy just means you might pick more up.  My earthy spy is more likely to get 2 angelweed per bush compared to my non earthy physician who can only get one it seems.

I'd appreciate it. There seems to be enough information to warrant a page dedicated to herbs alone :)

List of Nightshade spawns in my kingdoms.  This has been every time for me.

- one by the barracks doors behind a tree
- one behind the blacksmith
- one next to cave entrances at graveyard
- two behind the training grounds and kingball court
- one behind the clinic
- one on the path to the forest just under where the sagewort spawns
- one behind the pit of judgment on the way to the village shoppe

I also forgot one on my angelweed list.  There is one behind the peteran church and one on the right corner of the cathedral as well.  (forgot the cathedral one) (editing main list to reflect this as well)

LOL.  Okay then, I was gravely mistaken!  But yes, certainly only certain heroes can discover certain herbs and ores.  I want to say that the hero who found something besides Electrum was a lower level, but it could have just been my eyes playing tricks on me late at night.

After having discovered all the ore/herbs three times now (about to start fourth ambition/ sixth kingdom), I pretty much just know where everything is going to be.  One of the first characters I make is usually a wizard just so he can find and collect (!) everything.   The collecting part is important or you'll have to waste a few sim minutes discovering it all over again.
