Oh yeah, just to add some info, for someone who might experience this,
Sometimes I forgot to put out bad food in my sim's inventory, so it will give negative Disgusted moodlet. Try checking your sim's inventory. Also, a trash compacter which is already full, you can't see it, but your sim will have Disgusted moodlet.

And Saltypaws, yes, I realize that also, I once had a bedroom with no window, only lamps, apparently sim do not like that. And I think if your sim have Loves the Outdoor trait, no window in the room is kind of bad. Well something like that maybe..  :) Maybe the patch deliberately made Mood gain more challenging.

I've had sims with like 5 great moodlets being totally depressed. Specially when they are on vacations. Metro advised to buy them expensive beds, and it worked. It keeps happening while traveling though. Probably it's because of the cheap beds you find in base camps and everything, and cheating to buy better beds in each location should work...

It's probably a bug, since Sims have never cared about the bed's quality. They will sleep less in more comfortable beds, but they don't normally get depressed from sleeping on cheap ones. Plus it's not normal for Sims to have so many good moodlets (with  no bad moodlets at all) at the same time and still have the mood bar in red.

Hopes that helps someone, at least it helped me. If not... try getting those easy moodlets like the rubber duckie, the clean clothes and sheets, well decorated and that stuff.

Traveling seems to fix it for me.

This has been a recurrent issue for me that seemed to coincide with the installation of Late Night, but may also have been related to any number of patches. It's annoyingly intermittent. I've read countless pages of two or three different forums, and the only suggested fix that's worked with any degree of accuracy, for me, is exiting and restarting the game.

It used to be enough to give me several hours of viable playtime, but I'm noticing it seems to be decompensating more rapidly now. I'm loath to try uninstalling and reinstalling the BG and 3 Xpacs because of the time involved, but my Sims' moods are tanking so collossally that I'm restarting every hour or so.

Can anyone that's gone as far as a complete reinstall confirm that it's resolved the issue permanently?

Is there a specific patch I should avoid if I DO reinstall?

Would I cause any damage to the program files if I dumped my cache?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this & I truly appreciate any advice or assistance in this matter.

@Rabid Ewok, welcome to the forum. Are your Sims using cheap beds by any chance? That seems to be one possible cause of the low mood bug and simply buying the best beds might be an easy fix for you.

@ Metropolis Man, Thank you and good morning :)

I'm currently using the LN bed that sells for 4k. It was virtually unplayable when I was using the cheap brass bed that came with my house. I don't recall the name offhand, but upgrading the beds, showers, stove/refrigerator was a priority early on. I'm a bit of a purist, so it had to wait until I could actually afford to do it without cheats, and that was fairly brutal.

I'm still getting moods in the OMGPMS range for no apparent reason. It's incremental and nearly imperceptible immediately after restarting the game, but begins to negatively effect job performance and interpersonal interactions within an hour or so. Much longer than that, and it's time to call in the maid/repairman to sort everything out and clear some of the negative moodlets that render my Sims nonfunctional.

It's a VAST improvement over what it used to be, but it's still rather vexing when sending a Sim to work decreases their overall job performance. As I tend to get sidetracked (or bored) quite often and start new families, it's an issue I deal with frequently enough to look for a more permanent fix than restarts... or perhaps switch to decaf and see if I can stick with one family for more than 2 days... see if it resolves itself... lol

Welcome to our Forum, Rabid Ewok.

I haven't tested it, but I doubt a complete reinstall will fix this issue.  And I can't say which patch to avoid because the game will automatically require you to load the current patch with each expansion and stuff pack that you install.  We have a topic that will tell you files you can safely delete in your game files to help your game run more smoothly.

I understand being a purist, but you may want to grant yourself the funds to buy nice beds until EA comes out with a solution to this problem.  :)

Rabid, are your sims depressed inspite of having +moodlets, or they just don't have any? when I had this issue my sims wouldn't get a decent mood no matter what or how many +moodlets they where having. However, you should try giving them some of the easy +moodlets and see if that fixes it somehow. They probably won't get the elated mood status, but at least it should make them happy enough to do what you want them to. Nicely decorated, rubber duckie, clean clothes and beautiful lot are good examples.

Just to add my two cents...

Only had this happen once so far, though interestingly enough restart did not fix it. I opened the option window with +45 mood no negative moodlets, just barely under uncomfortable dark orange miserable. Closed option window and sims mood was at very happy right on the edge of uh... elated? the little bubble above where you get aspiration points over time. I must say the restart did help though, before restart was at +45 mood and barely a sliver of red showing full on miserable.

I completely believe this is a bug. Not because the game is running different than I am used. Simply because this is one of the simplest and easiest games out there that takes almost no skill to play. Any idiot that is brand new to the game can be reasonably successful at it. Sure it does take some good understanding to fully master this game, but for a new player to constantly be trying to maintain +30 or more mood to have a functional sims is no where near what the target gamer EA was shooting for.

Here is to hopes there is a patch to fix this bug soon.

Welcome to our Forum, Wedge80.  I agree, this issue has to be a bug.  Hopefully EA will have a fix for it soon.

...There's a mod that's supposed to fix it. I don't really want to install it, but I do want to be able to play the game again. It's unplayable after a few Sim days. *sigh* I'm conflicted.

We are very much against the use of mods.  My advice is don't install it.  Is your game unplayable because of low moods?  Do you restart the game and buy expensive beds?

...There's a mod that's supposed to fix it.

Which of course, you'll have to remove when they release another expansion pack or a patch.  Then you'll have to wait for an updated version of the mod, and reinstall it.  Rinse and repeat every time there are expansion packs and patches.  Not really worth the trouble in my book, and that's ignoring the fact that you don't really know how it's going to react in your game to start with.

It's a simple fix:  pause, save, return to main menu, reload the game, unpause.  It takes me about 2-3 minutes, and it returns all moods to normal levels.  Then, as soon as you have 2,800 simoleans, buy the Lexington bed or any other bed with a comfort value of "+++".  If it's a single sim, you can save some money by buying a twin bed version of any of the beds with a comfort value of "+++".  I've tested them all, and they're the only ones of a lesser comfort value that don't have this bug for some reason.

Maybe I should make a comprehensive list with prices...
