Create a Pattern - custom stickers won't recolour in game
« on: February 26, 2011, 01:22:23 AM »
Does anyone here have experience with using custom stickers in CAP? I normally use the geometric shapes provided and apply the stencil tool so I can get a nice crisp block of colour. Today, I thought I'd do something a bit different, so I saved some of my own images as stickers and used them to make a pattern. I ended up with this:

So far so good, but when I saved it and loaded it into my game, it turned into this:

The stickers just reverted to their original colour and I can't do anything to change it. All I can do in Create a Style is make it darker or lighter. Colours just don't work at all, and I don't want to put this pattern on the Swap Shop unless I can fully recolour the white sections (like I could when I was making it in CAP). I already did a few things in CAP like turning off the visibility of the layers I wasn't using and setting brightness and saturation to maximum. Does anyone know how to fix this? I only have Paint, by the way.  :-\

Actually, I like the black and white version lol, but that doesn't help you.
I haven't played with CAP for a while and I can't at the moment because the daughter is on that computer. I'll have a look later though and see what happens.
What if you coloured the images in paint before loading them into CAP or were they already coloured when you put them in?

The images were white when I put them into CAP. I could colour them in beforehand, but what I really want is the ability to do so in-game, just for the versatility. I know it doesn't look too bad in black and white, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I'm determined to see it in (adjustable) colour. Thanks though.  :)

I just regained the good computer, so I have fired up CAP to have a play.

I think the only way to do it with acceptable results is to colour the stickers before importing them into CAP. Seems that the brightness slider on the layer properties has to be all the way to the left for the colour to stay, but that makes even the black have a colour to it, plus the image loses it's crispness.
I took the same image and recoloured it four times to make different stickers, then I added each of these as a custom sticker. I made a pattern with four layers using a different sticker on each layer. The result in game was nice and clear plus each layer colour can be changed without losing the black.
The only thing, is when using the create a pattern tool ingame to change the colours, the buttons you choose from are all black. You have to select one and just experiment by dragging the colour select tool around the large circle (lucky there is an undo button lol)

This is the original pattern I made using a different sticker for each layer.

Here, I've selected the coloured spot to change the colour on one of the layers. Not sure why only one spot shows a colour.

And here, I've selected one of the black spots. Even though they don't show a colour here, if you drag around on the bottom circle, the colour will change.

Thanks so much, I'll definitely have to remember that in the future :D. Now to go back and recolour the 92 stickers I added. Hopefully I can get a similar design into the Swap Shop soon!
