Black Screen [Solved]
« on: August 30, 2022, 05:10:47 AM »
Hi guys. I have a new computer and I bought the sims 3 with all the dlc from steam. But I didn't know you have to make the game recognize new graphics cards. I tried tweaking graphics files from the tutorials but I can't make sure it recognizes it because I don't have the deviceconfig file (I got the 'graphics card not recognized error the first time but now I don't)

Now I get black screens all the time and the game crashes. The crash log analyzer says it's because of custom content but I just tested it without custom content and it still crashed.

And I read somewhere that pets expansion makes all the old cc invalid or something. Is that true? I didn't have pets before and I could play just fine with the same CC.

Something else I read about was old resource.cfg files. Do I have to download an updated version?

My computer has nvidia rtx 3060 graphics card, 16 gb ram and 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz
It's windows 11
I use custom content it crashed without it anyway
I have all the expansions
The game version is 1.67.2
I tried deleting cashes
I have now sims in downloaded sims folder
I just updated my graphics card

I selected the game through nvidia panel but I couldn't find the vertical sync option

Hi Stregoicadi, welcome to the forum! :)

Did you download the GraphicsCards.sgr and GraphicsRules.sgr files that the Flynns have posted? The RTX 3060 graphics card should be included in that download.

While the thread linked below talks about the Alder Lake processor and Sims 3.  It also goes over some tips for Windows 11 and Sims 3.

Sims 3 won't open: Alder Lake (Intel 12th-gen) CPU
https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/Sims-3-won-t-open-Alder-Lake-Intel-12th-gen-CPU/td-p/11057820

I don't know the tips will work, but it's worth looking into.

I guess the game recognized my intel graphics card. not nvidia. I found out about this after when finally found deviceconfig file :D

I chose nvidia card for the sims from my nvidia panel and checked the graphicscard files to be sure. And now I can play with cc without crash now.

Thanks a bunch. I have a overheating issue now though but one step at a time :D

You may have already found a solution to not finding the vertical sync option?

I was able to find it by scrolling to the bottom of the Specify settings for this program list:

The reason I couldn't find that was it was weirdly translated to Turkish :D

I put v-sync option on, and downloaded this software named RivaTuner mentioned in this topic. And started playing on a table for my laptop to breathe.

It's working normally now. Thank you so much for all your help^^ This forum helped me so much more than EA support  :D One of them even told me to get support from microsoft without even listening to my problem  ::)

You're welcome!! :)

You can cap the frame rate with Nvidia Control Panel. Doing this will cap it at 60 FPS.
