Children Can Actually Learn 11 Skills
« on: October 27, 2014, 09:34:40 PM »
I just realized that I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else in the forum.

After your children max the 4 "child" skills, they can actually learn 7 more: Charisma, Fishing, Logic, Mischief, Piano, Video Gaming, and Violin, for a total of 11 skills.

They may be able to learn Fishing before maxing the 4 child skills. I haven't tried that yet.

When they become a teen, they drop the 4 child skills, but keep the other 7.

Notable to say that you don't have to max all the 4 child skills, just the skill related to the "grown-up" skill (by that, the skills that carry over).

I haven't seen other skills appear if I haven't maxed at least 1 so I don't know about the fishing deal.

I checked to make sure that Pam says it's doable in her Children Guide, and she does. We just say it unlocks them, but not what skills. I'll add that. Having the specific skills will also help make that information stand out more, so that's wonderful. Thank you, Lindsay and imayu  :)

@imayu94, good point.

Basically, if, for example, your child is practicing storytelling in the mirror, and he reaches Level 10 of "Social," he will continue building a skill, now "Charisma." One of my children transitioned from building "Mental" to building "Logic" while playing a lot of chess of his own "free will" so-to-speak.

Update: 30 Oct 2014:
Thanks, @DarkWalker, for the correction (see correction and post below)

Mental >> Logic, Fishing, Video Gaming
Social >> Charisma, Mischief
Creativity >> Piano, Violin
Motor >> Nothing Fishing, Video Gaming

Here's what your kids' skill levels can look like:

Actually, which ones are unlocked after maximizing each child skill follows the kind of skill the grown up one is:

Mental: Fishing, Logic, Video Gaming.
Social: Charisma, Mischief
Creativity: Piano, Violin
Motor: none.

BTW, all of them are usable before they are unlocked, the child simply won't be able to gain any experience in them before reaching level 10 in the corresponding child skill.

I think the general idea is tied to the emotion state of the sim. Mental is boosted by focus, so is fishing logic and gaming. Same goes for inspired for piano and violon. Not sure about the social though.

I think you are mixing up cause and consequence   ;)

BTW, the only mood that specifically effects all social skills is Embarrassed, which lowers them all. Other moods have an effect on specific social skills.
