@Nella I'm having a lot of fun with this challenge. I share your like for npcs, as you say there are actually several jewels among them.

I failed due to negligence on my part.

It all started when the grim reaper appeared in the house to take Al away.

This is not exactly the problem; I was sad to lose Al but I already knew that it would happen at any moment since he was already 97 days old. He had met all of his requirements and had lived a full life.
The problem was that it’s happened the same day as an earthquake, Beatrice was responding to the second emergency of the day.

So I had to change focus several times as I didn't want to lose sight of what was happening on both sides.
I sent Beatrice to the third emergency of the day, there were several fires so I queued the extinguish fires command and I returned home to witness Al's last moments. And I entertained myself looking at what Grim did in the house. Big Mistake.

When I went to see what Beatrice was doing, I came across this image.

The bar was almost full, I canceled the action before she could win the point but it was not fast enough.

I must say that I’m not as disappointed as you may think, because I was already preparing to lose. Why? Because I really did the wrong strategy with Beatrice.
I should never have started the firefighter career with maxed athletic, I knew it could cause problems but I was confident that even if it took Beatrice's whole life, she could do it.  I didn't count on so many jobs being canceled before I could complete them, or sims disappearing from their homes in the middle of emergencies. I have never had such a bugged firefighting career before. In fact, the last jobs that Beatrice was able to complete didn’t increase the performance bar. The bar was frozen at level 9 and a half of the career.
I was already mentally prepared for this loss. And since I was having too much fun with this challenge, I have started a new one with Cooper as the founder.

Beatrice and Al’s son will be taking his mother’s career and starting from zero.

As soon as I have enough pictures for an update I will post the new story.

When you showed the chessboard I thought the challenge breaker was bargaining with Grim for Al's soul through chess (I've never tried it but everyone says it can happen) but yeah...that's a little worse for the challenge. At least Cooper was salvageable, that was the best blend yet.

I'm moving this to the graveyard at the author's request.
