Hi,
So I am really left scratching my head about this, but I have a Geforce 1060 GTX OC GPU which barely loads in game, and often also stops loading almost completely for what seems to be at completely random times, and I have been unable to resolve what could be causing this problem.
At best I seem to hover around 30-40% GPU load maximum, which I still think is very low given my computer specs as a whole:
Intel i7 4770k @ 3.5 ghz
16 GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 1060 GTX
I know the game is poorly optimized and so on, but I just can't seem to make it run smoothly. FPS drops due to my GPU no longer loading is frustrating, as the only way to make it work is to bring up the game menu and then leave it (no idea why that helps at all), and in general, I feel that I should be able to have a steady 60 FPS even on very populated lots, which I don't, because it only at best utilizes 20-30% of my GPU most of the time. This is at ultra settings I should add, which Geforce Experience also recommends are the optimal settings for my computer. I use windowed fullscreen, but it frankly does not matter if I run the game in fullscreen or windowed or not, as the result is the same. I also tried to turn Vsync on and off, and no difference there either.
In the same way, I barely use any CPU power and usually hover around 40-50% in game, and I read somewhere that Sims 4 does not take advantage of hyperthreading which could partially explain this, but that can't be the whole story.
I have tried to google a bit but there doesn't seem to be any definitive answers and suggestions outside that other people with mid- to high-range GPUs like myself have the same problem. I have tried to reinstall my drivers including updating them to the latest version, but to no avail. I play other games optimized for low end specs and consoles such as Tropico 6 and Surviving Mars just fine.
