Ceiling customization?
« on: September 14, 2012, 07:17:20 PM »
I don't know if there's already a post for this, there's so many its hard to read them all! But I saw a picture of a sim with the angle upwards and the ceiling was fancy looking instead of regular white. I was wondering if there was a regular way to change how it looks by a tab or in the create center, or if it's a taboo mod thing? Which I don't want of course.

It's been a feature since Base Game.  :) Simply place floor tiles on the ceiling by getting the angle right and it's the same method of placing floortiles. You can also use the Create-A-Style tool to edit the ceiling as well.

For a ceiling to appear there has to be a floortile on the floor above to create a ceiling.

When your in build mode looking at the floor tiles there is one called ceiling tiles. The third tab from the right that looks like a roof. But like floor tiles can be used on the ceiling the ceiling tiles can be used on the floor. :)

Three small points:

It is easier to place ceiling tiles, particularly in a small house if you select "cutaway walls", the middle option on the wall display tab.  It takes a little practice to be able to "paint" the ceiling, be patient.

If you want the ceilings the same in all rooms, save time and effort by painting them before putting in interior walls.  Very small rooms, like bathrooms can be tricky to paint.

Remember to place free wood tiles on the roof before you put on your chosen pitched roof or you won't have a ceiling to paint.

Ok can someone please tell me, has the ceiling tile disappeared? I have gone tile to tile through them all 6 times over and there is NO tile called ceiling tile anywhere! I have tried using other to no avail, so what the heck has EA done?

You can still tile the ceilings -

Build > Floor & Ceilings > Ceiling Tiles tab or any flooring of your choice.

Click images to see larger view.

Build - Flooring & Ceilings

Ceiling Titles tab

Adding Flooring to Ceiling

You can add any flooring to the ceiling as well. To do this, add free wood flooring to the ceiling from the outside or roof, for example. Inside, with the walls up, or half up - angle the camera to the ceiling to add any floor or ceiling tile.
