Mod Lag and Origin issues
« on: November 26, 2018, 12:53:04 PM »
Hi,

I am helping my flatmate install mods for the Sims 3 and there seem to be issues with lag. I have tried the following steps:

Each time I start I use a fresh save as my flatmate wants to play fresh when they start.

Deleted cache files

Confirmed that Sims recognises Graphics card (though the file needed for this is one that gets deleted in the above step it is generated afresh at game start up)

Lowered graphics in game as low as flatmate can stand (flatmate is autistic and having grass that was just flat green land was too weird).

I tried to take the steps to turn off Origin but Origin appears to be behaving strangely (it loads up and launches the game but does not display any of the tabs when they are pressed, menus open but pressing anything other than log out/exit has no visible effect.

I have seen mention of limiting the framerate but couldn't find a working way to do so OR if that would help.
I have also heard about combining packages but found the information quite confusing as it says you can combine packages but not mods (all the mods my flatmate wants installed come as packages) so this is a bit confusing.

Any and all help would be gratefully received. If additional information is required please let me know and I'll supply it.

Thanks,

Offline MrsFlynn

It sounds like Origin may not be working correctly. So you might try clearing Origin cache.

- How To: Clear Origin Cache

If that doesn't help try manually uninstalling and reinstalling Origin.

Try uninstalling/reinstalling Origin.
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/

To turn off Origin In-Game
Open Origin, Select Origin > Application Settings > Origin In Game tab and click the on/off switch to disable Origin In Game. - This deactivates Origin In-Game, as it has been known to cause problems with games.

I am not real familiar with combining packages. Something to try instead is take out what you have and add only a few at a time. As if to troubleshoot the lag issue.

To fix mods and custom content try the 50/50 method:

1. Move all the mods and cc out into a temporary folder on the desktop.

2. Move a few custom content files back at a time. Load the game to make sure it loads and everything is good.

3. Delete the game cache from the Sims 3 folder.

4. Repeat steps 1 - 3 till there is no more files to check.

** While your testing, don't save the game. If you find any problems, delete the mod or custom content file.

If none of the above help or you want more in-detail help with mods and custom content. You may want to ask over at a dedicated mod site, such as ModtheSims or TSR. These sites have more of a dedicated modding community that can be more helpful with questions like this.
