Issue with a writer's club

The members except for my Sim get up from the chair every other second, walk away a few steps, then return to the computer and write for a bit. Lather, rinse, repeat. It is driving me crazy

Is it supposed to be so?

Are all of the club members also living in your sim's household?
Sims will not autonomously start writing a novel, at least that's been the case even with my active sims.
Even with maxed Writing skill, the most my active sims will do autonomously is "Practice Writing."
If I direct active sims to write novels, once they're done with that, they'll either practice writing, browse the web, or troll teh forums.

That's just been my experience, though...

None of the other members are from my Sim's household.

Well, I've disbanded the club since I don't really need it. But writing is probably not a very good club activity to use
