Comments on these laptops for Sims 3?
« on: September 12, 2017, 07:02:02 AM »
Hi everyone!

I've been looking to buy an used laptop for a while, not the best option I know. But the reason for this is that my current laptop is a HP that runs with Celeron 1.5GHz (2 CPUs) and integrated HD Graphics, so, you see my problem? My hardware is awful for TS3, but I cannot afford a lot so that's why I'm buying an used one.

But let's ignore the fact I'm buying an used laptop. Would you recommend any of these listed below? I only play with Seasons and Pets, although those are quite demanding EPs. No stuff packs. I have only about 12 gigs of custom content.

First one:

Packard Bell Easynote TV
AMD Dual-Core Processor A6-4400M 2.7GHz (up to 3.2GHz with Turbo Core)
6GB DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 7520G + 7670M with 1GB Dedicated VRAM

Second one:

HP Pavilion 15-p052no
AMD A-Series A8-6410 Quad-core 2.0GHz - 2.4GHz
6GB DDR3L-SDRAM
AMD Radeon R5 + R7 M260

If it matters, I mostly take pictures in the game so I guess graphics are the most important thing for me. And I do understand I'm not going to have the best and the smoothest graphics by buying an old laptop, but I want something better than my current one is.

I honestly can't tell much of a difference spec wise. Either of them will get low/medium settings.

Like you mentioned, these won't run the game that well, due to the processor not made for gaming. So you'll run into a lot of crashing and lag.

12 gigs of CC is actually quite a lot, and will impact the gameplay, so you might want to try only having a small amount. Maybe half or less.

Oh, well perhaps I'm just used to people around me having dozens of gigas of cc, lol.

And yeah it's true, the CPUs are the bottlenecks in both laptops. I doubt they would make my game crash as even with my Celeron it doesn't, but lag, sure. Can you say how big an impact would the low-end processor have on how well the graphics work?  I mean at the end of the day, running smoothly is not as important to me as graphics, since I do not play at all, I only use CAS/CAP and build modes as well as take pictures.

I don't know what the full impact will be, as each player has different experiences. But do know having a low-end processor that doesn't meet minimum specs you will most likely experience, crashing, lag and slowness.

It's just something to take into consideration when your playing/building in the game.

Thank you for your answer! I'll keep this topic going in case there's someone who has had either one of the CPUs/GPUs.

The first one is the best choice.

My laptop runs a Radeon 6650M in it and can max out Sims 3 in terms of graphics. What I will say is make sure you get a 250GB or higher SSD. It makes a MASSIVE difference when you're running a ton of CC. Also try and use custom worlds if possibe, even if it's custom versions of official worlds, because the routing issues cause SERIOUS lag.

EDIT: Even though the second one has a better CPU, the reason I recommend the first is because it has DEDICATED graphics memory, which will really, really help. :)

Also,  the specs of my laptop are i5-2430M CPU (2.4ghz dual core), Radeon 6650M 2GB RAM, 8GB system RAM, 250GB SSD and Sims 3 runs fine with all stuff and exapansion packs. I can even play Sims 4 on it on High in laptop mode.
