Origin opens despite settings

Hey guys,

Origin has become a bit bothersome after its last update. Normally, it would run in the background minimized in the system tray. I could open and close games without having to view the origin client itself - also because I had it set to not show after gameplay. Still do. But now Origin shows both before and after I load a game and it's getting on my nerves. I use my game shortcuts, yet Origin still opens in my face and pops up again when I close games. Despite its settings telling it not to. Help, anyone?

I wasn't really able to find any firm information, but do have some suggestions to try.

1. Try turning the option on and then off again. Click on Origin > Application Settings > Show Origin after gameplay on/off

2. Delete Origin Cache Files (What and How-To)

3. Uninstall/Reinstall Origin

Waiting to see what you come up with Nindgo as my Origin client does the same despite having the settings to where it shouldn't. Super annoying got to say.

This is a bug.

I had Hubby test this issue [Play game by game short-cut while Origin minimized to taskbar - Origin still pops up]. He found that it seems to be a bug in the Origin client itself. Even though the option is turned off, the client is ignoring that it's turned off.

I can't reproduce the bug on my computer. The game opens up after clicking on the game short-cut, and Origin minimizes to the taskbar and doesn't pop up again.

I have tried to search some more on this and am still not finding anything on this particular issue. So it might be worth reporting it. You can report it to the Answers HQ forum or via EA Customer Service.

Thanks for that MrsFlynn. I was wondering why this kept happening. At least Origin lets me minimize sims from windowed full screen with the alt/tab button these days. That was a serious design flaw smh.

Oh, good. Well, not good - but it means my Origin is not specially annoying. I followed all of MrsFlynn's steps and eventually re-installed, but nothing helped. It still pops up...if a patch can start it, a patch should be able to fix it.

Sorry for not responding, Playalot. Wow...alt/tab is pretty critical. Another game of mine (not Sims) won't allow this without crashing. It has been fixed with a new game version now. Must have been a pain with The Sims
