Sims stuck in their current interaction, blank icons

I just discovered this bug yesterday when I tried to load my saved game and wondered if anyone else had it:

When I load the game, it looks and runs normally, except the Sims won't finish their current interaction, and I can't select anyone or do anything.  The Sims' icons (on the left side of the screen) are all blank. 

I've tried using resetSim; it has no effect.
I've tried evicting the family via Edit Town and moving them back in; that has no effect.  In fact, the Sims were all invisible after that.
I've tried deleting all the "cache" files and that didn't help.
I'm playing in Bridgeport and I don't have any mods or CC.  I don't have World Adventures installed.

Anyone else have ideas?  I think I've seen other people mention this bug but I never did see a proper solution.

Saving the savefile somewhere else and also copy the family to the family bin, reinstalling the game and try to play those families don't work either?

You could reinstall everything and defragmentate your computer system after that to make everything work smooth again. Hope that helps.

Hm, maybe I'll try copying them to the bin, but I don't think it'll make a difference based on what I've seen so far. 

I guess I'll just end up starting over.

You've probably got a corrupted save file, Glic.  Do you have other files you can test to see if they do the same thing?

Apparently just this one household is corrupted.  I went back to an older save for this household and ....  it might be working?  I'm not sure yet.  So far, so good, I guess.  If it doesn't, there's probably nothing I can do.
