I'm no expert by any means, but I believe you use the curved options along with the regular square/rectangular tool.  Like, make a small regular pool, then change its shape with the curved tools.

I tried making a Kidney shape but I could not get it right and after about 10mins I gave up and just made a bit of a curved edge.  ;)
