What happens while traveling

So I just bought WA today and got it downloaded, but I'm afraid of traveling because I don't know what will happen to my job that I'm lvl 10 with? Do I automatically take vacation days. Also what happens to my garden, will all of it be fine while I'm gone? Any other things I need to know before traveling somewhere?

While your sim travels, everything back home is paused, so when you go back it's as if you never left. Pretty much like visiting Narnia.
