Sims 3 glitch stuck on build buy mode?

I really don't know what this glitch is and I tried to look it up - I can't find it anywhere.
Pretty much, wanted to teleport my sim onto another sim's lot but i accidentally pressed the "Build on this Lot" Option. it then brought me into build/buy mode, as usual, but instead of giving me the option to build on their lot, it brought me to build mode back on my own lot.
 
The game isn't frozen, but none of the buttons work - the live button, build, buy, video, etc. and I can't change the wall settings. Any object I click on gives me the options "Reset it, Delete it, Clone, and Thumbnail Camera". I can view the whole map but I can't zoom out, and when i click on a lot it'll say "set as front lot" and if i click on the option, blue arrows appear and point to the area I clicked on.

What's going on? I spent so long on my sim to master the inventing skill and build a simbot and now it's glitched. Does anyone know how I can get out of this mode?

You probably need to do a hard exit from the game using the Task Manager if you have a Windows operating system.  If you're on a Mac, I don't know how to do it.  This will get you out of the game and shut it down, but it won't save.  Your game will start at the point of the last save.

But we want to be able to SAVE it.  What mode is this, anyway?  As described in the original post?

The original post is in the build/buy mode when the glitch happens.  You will not be able to save your game unfortunately, have to hard exit the game and lose your progress.

Sometimes F5 can help - you can go into edit town that way and save, or use the menu to quit. I've had that bug a LOT.

I tried pressing f4 and then f3 and it worked so i didn't have to exit the game
