Can't Launch Sims 3 or Medieval
« on: May 27, 2017, 03:49:16 AM »
Hey guys- just made an account on this forum, I'm more than desperate to get this issue fixed. I'm copy pasting what I've posted on the EA help forums where I received no reply. It's quite long to simply show the extent of the problem I've had. Hoping someone here can help me because I'm going insane, thank you!

I've been trying to solve this problem daily since the 30th of April, and I just want it fixed.

Basically, I played the Sims 3 before a work shift at about 12pm, and when I came home after that work shift (I hadn't shut down or restarted my computer) at about 7pm I went to relaunch the game, only for it to come up with an error through origin about it being unable to launch or something. I thought "that's a bit weird since I haven't touched it or my computer", so I restarted my computer thinking it would solve the problem. Since then, The Sims 3 hasn't launched at all. As soon as I click on the icon in either origin or my desktop, I get an instant error message of "Sims3Launcher is not responding". I thought to try it another day and see if it would work, but in the meantime I decided to try Medieval, only to find that not working either??? I would click the icon, there would be no 'not responding' error but it just wouldn't open. They both pop up in my processes menu on task manager for about a second and then disappear.

I've been on EA chat support daily since then and I've tried every solution they've given me with no help. I can try and list all the ones I've tried out but I'm not even sure it would fit in the post. Basically they've sent me 3 emails with a full list of different troubleshooting solutions that haven't worked.  It's gotten to the point where they've just started offering me coupon codes to tide me over because they can't seem to fix my issue either. The fact that medieval is also screwing up means that its not an origin issue or a disc issue (I play Sims 3 through Origin and Medieval through disc), it's not an internet issue in that case either, so I have no clue what it could be. A problem with the launchers is what it must be, but a fix???? Almost every troubleshooting option possible I've tried. I've downloaded multiple programs recommended by EA support to 'clean' my computer or 'fully uninstall' my programs, and those haven't worked either. I'm hoping someone here can offer a different kind of solution maybe???

I made no changes at all to my computer in the 5 hours after I closed the game, as I wasn't even home. I'm so confused how this problem even begun but all I want to do is play my game again.. I've spent way too much money on the Sims 3 for it to just break on me :')

Please help :(

EDIT: I've recently discovered that it seems as though the games don't show up in firewall; or at least Medieval doesn't. Not sure if that helps at all.

Here are some tips to try:

1. Deactivate Origin In-Game

Open Origin, Go up to the Origin Menu, Click Origin and select Application Settings. Select the Origin In-Game tab. Make sure the box for it is clear or unchecked or turned Off. - This deactivates Origin In-Game, as it has been known to cause problems with games.

[Origin in-game is a feature that allows you to see friends online in-game as well as other game stats. However, It has been known to cause problems having this feature turned on.]

2. Repair Game
Go to My Games Library - Right-click on Sims 3 and Select Repair.

3. Try a factory reset of game

4. Uninstall/Reinstall the game

Uninstall the game via Origin or the Control Panel

- Origin -- Go to Games Library and right-click on Sims 3, select Uninstall. This will uninstall all of Sims 3 and it's packs.
- Control Panel -- Control Panel > Uninstall a Program > Find Sims 3 and it's packs and uninstall each of them.

Install Sims 3 and expansions via Origin

1. Log into your Origin Account with the email and password you used to purchased the game with.
2. Click on the Game Library tab, right-click on the Sims 3 and select Download. This will download the base game and any expansions, and stuff packs that have been purchased. The download process includes any bonus items.

** There should be no need for the game code, as Origin already has that information. However, if you have this problem, please read the link below for more information.

It is recommended to run Ccleaner and it's registry cleaner Or a similar registry cleaner, after or before installing the game again. To help clean up files that get left behind in the registry after an uninstall.

With Medieval not launching either it maybe best to uninstall/reinstall it as well. An alternative is to register the game with Origin for a download copy.

The download version has an advantage of the launcher being removed and you can repair game if needed.

Also with Origin games you can download them, back them up and restore them. So you don't have to re-download the entire game if you need to reinstall.

I've already tried all of those, but the Super Patcher method doesn't work for me because it says that I need to have a "previous version of the sims 3 installed". It seems as though my computer isn't recognising the game or something?

I searched more on the Origin version of Sims 3 and the super patch.

It sounds like the super patch isn't needed when you download and install Sims 3 directly from Origin. As when it's installed via Origin, it gets patched automatically to 1.69.

Where can I get the Super-Patcher for The Sims 3?
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/the-sims/the-sims-3/the-sims-3-super-patcher/#pc

If the computer doesn't recognize that Sims 3 is installed, the game needs to be reinstalled, as something in the registry has gotten corrupted.

Information on a manual removal is here at the official EA site
http://help.ea.com/en/article/manually-uninstalling-the-sims-3/

Follow the steps for Windows Vista/7 as Windows 8 and 10 store everything in the same place.

I've reinstalled possibly 20 times by now with both games, it doesn't seem to make a difference. :-\

I'm sorry, there isn't anything more we can do. If you haven't yet, read over the tips in the thread linked below. If they don't help, you might try posting about the issue in the first thread linked below to see if you can get some help.

I've also found a troubleshooting article on Origin games not installing that might be of help.
