Are fps caps necessary?
« on: April 25, 2017, 04:27:45 PM »
Hello, I was just wondering if it is necessary to cap your fps because I've heard that leaving it uncapped will end up frying your graphics card. The thing is, although I am getting around 60-80 fps in gameplay (sometimes it drops a lot though) and about 130 in CAS, when building, and when the game is paused my gpu temperature has never been higher than 50. This makes me think that maybe I don't have to cap it since my temperature so far doesn't seem to be too hot, yet from what I've read almost everybody seemed to be using an fps limiter so I was wondering if it is necessary for me to use one seeing as my gpu temperature is not too bad.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that my card is an AMD Radeon r7 360.

I've never used a fps cap and I've been playing Sims 3 for years without frying my graphics card.  I do clean my computer often so dust doesn't accumulate and overheating is less likely.

I don't think it matters as much anymore if you use a fps limiter or not. Newer video cards are made to handle the stress of graphic taxing games such as Sims 3. As long as you have good ventilation and a quality power supply that can handle the video card and like Magz says, clean out the computer from time to time to keep the dust out you should be good to go.
