Mac Book Pro
« on: April 04, 2017, 09:33:06 PM »
Good day,
I'm new here. I joined from after googling and finding the technical help of really great quality!

I don't know much about computers but I am in the market for a new computer that is capable of running the Sims 3.

I'm a mac fan so I was wondering if this computer would be capable of running the sims 3 with not much lag?

How about this one? This is my second choice.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

I'm not a Mac user, but have tried to search on this the best I could. From what I'm finding this that the specs for the IMac would be the better choice. (better processor, more hard drive space)

However the graphics in either Mac may not be adequate for Sims 3. As the game has problems with the Intel Iris Pro Graphics and may not work.

BluebellFlora has written an article about it on her site, if you'd like to have a look:

What @MrsFlynn said above. Avoid Macs with Intel Iris graphics cards. Always choose NVIDIA or AMD.
And don't try an Apple laptop to play the Sims 3. You'll burn your laptop. They don't have adequate cooling and they're too weak for games like this anyway. As much as I like Apple products (I play on a Mac, even though it's on a Windows partition), they're easily exposed to overheating.
I'd rather suggest something similar to my own iMac. Cheaper if you buy it refurbished. It's great with the Sims 3, but if ever you want to play with plenty of expansions and / or custom content, it's important to setup a Windows partition with Bootcamp to play in good conditions. But you can easily play just the base game or a reduced number of EPs without Bootcamp.
