Annoyances regarding split level rooms
« on: January 19, 2014, 04:30:01 PM »
Hi all,

I've just recently learned how to achieve split level rooms (where you auto level with foundation to get a "sunken" or elevated room from the rest of the house).

While I've got the construction parts down pretty well, I have a few issues:

  • Lighting: I can put lights wherever I want, obviously, but I have 2 options... I can put the lights on the ceiling of the room (the top of the full wall) or at the top of the shortened wall.
The problems here are that the room will either be badly lit or the sims would logically be walking into the lights (I'm not sure about this as I haven't tried it)
  • The other issue is the wall coverings around the doors - they look terrible! Logically, I figure I can fix this if I swap it around so that the full wall starts at the floor and then the partial wall is on top of that, but again, I haven't tried it...

Can anyone make any suggestions on how to deal with these issues? I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

You can place the visible lights wherever you want them, say for example the top half, and then use the buydebug lighting in the bottom half - if you have lighting in both parts the sims shouldn't get a 'dark' moodlet.

For the walls and windows, you can place a section of wall (at least 2 tiles away from the area) and use that as a guide to level the section of lowered wall only above the door/window (with CFE turned on). Your lower wall will look like this:
      ____
     /        \
__/          \__

So you will need to use a wall covering that is monotone, as the diagonal parts are stretched out. Bricks and panelling will look funny, but with plain paint with no trim it is barely visible.

I only learned about the buydebug lights last night in a video from Sims101 on YouTube :)
