Graphics Help - GTX 1060
« on: November 05, 2016, 04:10:56 AM »
Hey Flynn, I tried to follow the steps offered on the online guides, but when I open my "deviceconfig" from The Sims 3 Documents folder  I only find these 2 lines

" ===options=== "
 ===default options==="

That's it!!
I can't find the number of my gpu and I don't know how to tackle this, I tried to delete the sims 3 folder from documents so launching the game would automatically create a new one, but it was still blank!
I also have GTX 1060 6Gb, would you kindly send me your "graphicsrules" and "graphiccards" so I could just replace mine directly without going through this maze, because it's starting to give me a headache, I would Kindly appreciate any help!
Thanks!

Hi, Rabroub and welcome to the forums.

When you get an empty DeviceConfig.log file, it generally means you're missing a parenthesis in the GraphicsRules.sgr file. I've attached a zip file to this message from my system. It correctly recognizes the GTX 1060 and allows 2 GB of texture memory for the game. It should also work for someone using the 3 GB version of the 1060.

Backup your original .sgr files (if you haven't already), then unzip and replace. Let me know if you run into any problems.

Hope this helps and happy Simming! 8)

Flynn

Hey, I followed your steps to the letter and even copy/pasted the files that you posted to help the other guy out, but it's not working. My deviceconfig file is still in that almost empty state. I'll send you what I have so that you can explain to me why it's not working.
My card is a GTX 1070 as well, but a different device number: 1b81.

Nevermind, I figured it out. I replaced the .srg files I had with yours and changed the name and device number of the card I had. Then I deleted the deviceconfig file and booted the game to automatically create a new deviceconfig file. It now recognizes my new card.  ;D

I'm happy to hear you were able to figure it out!! :)

Just in case there are others wanting graphics files for the GTX10 series of graphic cards see the post linked below. The particular post is for the Sims 3 graphics files, but if you scroll through the thread you can find the graphics files for Sims 4 if needed.

Just for the record... "unrecognised card" isn't a major problem. You can just set all your graphics settings manually.

That's what I've done for YEARS on my R9 290X and Radeon 6650M with 0 issues.

I've got a different graphics card than what is shown in your tutorial so I'm kinda confused by the instructions. I'm not tech savvy either. Can I get some help following the instructions? Also someone mentioned setting your graphics manually, how do I do that?

While in game, go into options.

The first tab that pops up is the graphics options. You set everything manually in there. I literally just set everything to the maxiumum, because modern graphics cards can handle it.

Then hit apply (the game will complain it needs to restart), restart the game, done. The "unrecognised graphics card" message won't pop up again and it'll run fine.

EDIT: I'll get a screenshot of my settings next time I'm on the PC to show what I mean.
