CAW problem

I have successfully created a world and when i get to the part where i add a thumbnail it says it has to be 256×256 with something about a 24 color bit. I can't find any useful information about how to get that type of picture nor have i been able to adjust in paint. Can anyone help me with this??? Thanks!!!
