A Few Gameplay Problems
« on: January 18, 2017, 11:14:52 PM »
Hello! I am experiencing a few problems in my gameplay of the Sims 4 and I am wondering if anyone had any answers or tips. I will let you know that I know about nothing about computers, so if I am confused by your response, I apologize in advance :)

First off, my game has a lot of lag. When I first got the game, it didn't do this at all, but now it's really starting to drive me nuts. When I click on something, like say the refrigerator, it takes a while (sometimes 5-10 seconds) before the menu will actually pop up. Then if I select something like "Grab a Serving" it takes even more time for it to show up in my Sim's queue. It also happens when switching between Sims. If I have two Sims in a household and I click on the other Sim to control him, it won't actually switch to him for some time. All of this is really annoying when it comes to playing the game because everything I want to do takes so long. Sometimes even when I want to click on something in the house or click on another Sim, the white glow around the object won't show up for a while either.

Second, my Ultra Speed is not working. Sometimes I can tell that it is not running as fast as it is supposed to be, and that's not fun. But more often than not the timer shows it is running at the correct fast speed until I click on Normal speed (1) again and it reverts back to some time in the past. For example, if my Sims are sleeping and Ultra Speed is going, say the clock says it is 5:00 AM. As soon as I change back to normal speed or something happens that makes it change, it will go back to a couple of hours before. It is almost as if everything is running at the normal speed in the background even though the clock says it is Ultra Speed. Things like the Energy bar and Hunger bar on a Sim will even set back, and if it has become morning outside it will go back to night time. It's very frustrating to have to wait so long for time to go by when I want it to be going quickly.

Lastly, my loading times are not very good. I can get to the first menu when I start the game fairly quickly, but when I try to load a household, things slow down quite a bit and it takes a long time for me to finally get into playing the game. It's even worse when I try to travel somewhere with my Sim, so much so that I avoid doing it now because I spend so much time waiting for the new location to load. Obviously I want to be able to travel places, but I don't want to do so if it's going to waste all of my time I have to play.

If anyone has any insight into any of these problems, I would be very grateful! I checked my cache folder and it is completely empty. Also, if it helps, I am playing on a Lenovo Yoga 3 with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200U processor with CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.19 GHz. It's a 64-bit operating system.

Welcome to the forum!  :)
I can tell you from a game-play perspective that what you are experiencing is quite normal... unfortunately. These bugs and glitches seem to crop up from time to time only to be fixed in a patch to then again reappear again later.

There are some things you can do to help.
Keep your sims inventories as empty as possible.
Delete the localthumbcache.package file from your TheSims4 folder after playing
If you have been playing for a long time (hours and hours) save, quit and restart your PC

The time skipping backwards after using ultra of 3x speed is a common bug that requires a developers fix so all you can do is minimize the amount of items on the lot you are playing in.

@MrsFlynn  can tell you more about your PC's specs etc.

In regards to your computer, the processor isn't really made for gaming and these types of laptops usually come with integrated graphics. Sims doesn't run well on integrated graphics.

However, in the posts below are some tips on lagging, freezing and getting the game to load faster. Both posts have similar tips, but it may be worth reading them both to see if any of the tips helps.
