Buying plots on the Xbox?
« on: December 07, 2010, 12:21:23 PM »
I am ready to move on to bigger and better things - a bigger and better house, to be more specific. There is a huge lot that I have my eyes on right now, but it comes with a house that leaves much to be desired. Each time I try to do the "move" option on the computer, I'm forced to fork over 146k to buy the entire house. My question is, is there a way to just buy the empty lot? I would much prefer to build a house of my own to suit my Sim family needs.

Note: I have the Xbox version.

Thanks!

If you're able to edit your town on the XBox, then you should be able to edit town and get rid of the house. I can't say if it's possible, I only have the PC version at the moment.

Yes it is possible to "Buy" empty lots in the console versions- but there are some risks. What you need to do is move to the new house you want. Afterward access the Town Map menu. You should get options to Copy House and Replace House. Choose Replace house and it will warn you that doing so will delete any wishes that any of your sims have -don't worry though as there is a 50/50 chance that those long standing wishes your sims had may come back.

Now a menu should appear giving you different versions of the house you want. But if you are looking for a way to build a house from scratch then choose the Empty Legacy option. It will give you a blank canvas to use to your hearts content.

Just a bit of advice before you do something you might regret.
You will need to buy the Ugly House first. Don't worry as replacing the house sells everything that is currently on the lot so you should get the money back to buy a more desirable version or the empty lot.
Replacing the house will delete it from the save file but not from the game... So if you really want a copy of the default house for whatever reason always choose the Copy House option first and then Replace it.
Replacing house will reset all sims in your household so it is also desirable to Replace a home when none of your sims are at work or at school.
This unfortunately means that all your sims will have their current wishes deleted... but not their Lifetime wishes... just the small everyday ones.

sdinger70: Unfortunately we don't have an "edit town" option - at least one that I could find on the xbox. :[

coco_pops: Thank you! I guess there's no short-cut to buying the empty plot first, but it is reassuring to know that I will get my money back once I replace it. And I might choose the empty legacy lot instead, so double thanks for opening that option to me! I officially got sim-schooled today.

No problem, glad to be of help.

I actually had the same problem with not having the answers to the question I had about Sims 3 on console so I know how hard it is to find information. It was one of the reasons I joined the forums... But I found that I was helping out more then I was actually finding answers... strange how it goes like that. ;P

Hmm - I may have to get the XBox version to play and see how it is. My daughter would approve since she is always trying to kick me off the PC so she can play.

well you can edit town on the ps3 one and pc so I don't see why not. I mean, the ps3 and xbox 360 versions are the same.

Where is the edit town map on the ps3? I've looked everywhere!

I don't remember ever seeing an edit town feature for the PS3 version...? I was under the impression that the Xbox and PS3 were identical except for obvious things like button configurations.

Hi, coco_pops.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are indeed the same. Here's a quick guide to the buttons for each system:

PS3Xbox 360
XA
OB
SquareX
TriangleY
L1Left Button (LB)
L2Left Trigger (LT)
R1Right Button (RB)
R2Right Trigger (RT)
Start-> (Start)
Select<- (Back)

Hope this helps. :)

IloveLlamas: How would you "edit town" in the PS3 version? If it's possible for the PS3, then I'm sure I can do it for the Xbox.
