Imaginary Friend Age Limit

On the
Carl's Sims 3 Guide Page for Imaginary Friends
, it states, "I'm not aware of any time limit on doing this. The doll just seemed to get bigger as it aged, and it's likely you could transform it into adulthood."
I believe there is actually an age limit on this. I just had a sim age up to Young Adult and at first his imaginary friend remained animated. However, immediately after he attended his graduation ceremony, the doll turned back into just a doll.

Huh. I've seen plenty of IFs age up with their owners past young adulthood. Did they have a good relationship with the friend or not?

Yes, my sim had an excellent relationship with his doll. It was his girlfriend in fact. The friendship bar was pretty close to (if not completely) full.

Interesting. I'm at a loss except for waiting to see if she'll come out again.

@Trip
: No, the IF has not come out of doll state again.
It was animated after he aged up to young adult and he continued interacting with it right up until he went to his graduation ceremony. When he returned from the ceremony, *poof* it went back to being just a doll.
@Candyd
: No, the IF was not made real. I didn't have a potion yet, but the sim whose doll it was DID have the option (grayed out) in his interaction menu.

If you have someone else (a toddler, child, or childish teen\YA\adult\elder sim) play with the doll, it may become a sim.
You could change your YA to have the childish trait temporarily, and play with the doll then.
