Skills for tomb raiding
« on: December 11, 2010, 09:19:18 AM »
I know athletics and martial arts are good for adventuring for fighting mummies and clearing rubble, and photography is good for taking photos of collections. But I was wondering if skills like logic and handiness affect things in tombs like disarming traps? And are there any other skills that help with adventuring?

Edit - Ignore the part about handiness, apparently my skill at reading grew between the time I last read the guide and posting this, as I just saw it mentioned in the guide.

For any adventure that involves talking to other people, charisma is very useful and a real time-saver.

Completing the skill challenge for collecting bugs can also be very helpful, the Red Assassin Bug in China is rather rare and if you want to complete that adventure quickly (and get more bugs from it), to eliminate the possibility of failing to catch the bugs can be very handy. An adventure in Egypt also requires you to catch bugs, but they're not so rare.
An adventure in France requires you to make your own nectar bottles of a certain quality, not difficult to complete it starting with no nectar-making skill but it can shorten down the time some if you have some skill already. Another small adventure in France requires you to catch fish (including Crocodiles from Egypt), so fishing some in Egypt first can help you but it's not an important adventure, just one of those smaller adventures so you can skip it.
In an adventure-chain in Egypt (MorbuCorp) you're required to cook Shawerma and give to someone I believe, so some cooking skill is also needed.
When it comes to tomb-raiding, Martial Arts and Athletics are the only real skills you need. Like said above, Charisma is great for any adventure that requires you to talk to locals (convince them to give over a diary or a key, make them agree to something etc), my sim with all Charisma skill challenges completed become friends with a person just by doing the Charming Presentation.
Aside from those skills, I believe all other skill you need is your own. Adventuring in the most effecient way (if that's what you aim to do, some may want to just take it slow) requires some skill from the player him/herself. Attentiveness and good observation, good strategy and planning plus logical and creative thinking is what really matters when raiding tombs. If you're not careful, your sim just may be walking around hungry, tired and scorched from that trap when your trip's about to end and you're not done yet with an adventure.  :P
If you are afraid of changes
Watch me at a distance
Whether or not I may do something
I'm talked about behind my back
Let it be

Charismatic, Martial Art, Athletic, Handy and Brave. Those are the traits I will come up with.
That last one is practical for in case your sim will have his hands full with bugs (literally) after searching holes in tombs. Normally he would get scared, and therefore scared off from further raiding for a while, but brave sims won't.

What skills you need to train in order to make the most out of your traits should be clear: charismatic, martial art, athletic, handiness and maybe some collecting too, in order to be more succesfull in well, collecting.

As far as I know, logic doesn't matter.

Thanks for the responses. I forgot about charisma, but I usually work it on most of my sims anyway, especially with the charismatic trait. I'll have to work on handiness more, and cooking. Collecting I've been working on, mainly to make money so my sim can be an unemployed bum.
