Plants in Sylvan Glade
« on: November 18, 2016, 04:04:37 PM »
I'm a new Sims convert and really getting into TS4 -- still a noob, only playing one sim per generation (how the heck do you guys manage a houseful!?).  My current sim is collecting plants. I have two questions:

1 - With the botany aspiration, how big does my cowplant need to be to satisfy the aspiration? does it have to be "created" or can I get credit for the plant I got from catching a berry while fishing?

2 - I noticed several plants in the Glade have the option of "remove" or "dig up" or something like that. Does that remove it completely from the Glade? and does it give my sim a plant to put in the garden?

Sheesh, I can't count ... that's really four questions. :/  ... well, just two issues. Yeah, I'll go with that story. Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome, newly converted Simmer!

1) For the cow plant, it has to be full-grown to satisfy the aspiration. That takes several sim days. The berry caught while fishing will work or you can graft for it (but I heard that "taking a cutting" not on your home lot was broken in the city living patch and don't know if they've fixed it yet).

2) I've never done that so I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else will have some insight.

If you remove plants, they should respawn in the same spot. In order to grow them in your Sim's garden, you need to wait until they put out fruit or flowers. At that point, the "harvest" option will show up. Then you can plant the fruit or flowers. If your Sim has Level 5 gardening skill, you can take a cutting from a wild plant and graft it onto a plant on your Sim's lot. This is very useful for slower growing plants. That said, grafting appears to be broken at the moment, so you would have to wait for the plants to become harvestable or buy seed packets until that is fixed. If you fish in the pond in Sylvan Glade, you can catch pomegranates.

In order to graft plants to get cowplant berries, you would need to graft strawberry with snapdragon to get dragonfruit. Plant dragonfruit, then graft the dragonfruit to the snapdragon. You would still have to harvest and plant the berries to get a cowplant. You can also catch dragonfruit while fishing in the stream all the way in the back of Magnolia Blossom Park and some other places that escape me at the moment--maybe off the pier in Magnolia Promenade.

I should add that the plants only grow when your Sim is actually on the lot, so if you go home and wait a day or two to go back, the plants won't have grown. They will be just as you left them.

Thanks to Both of you. You also addressed a question that popped up this evening about cuttings I have not working when I try to graft. I sure hope they get that patched soon -- my sim wants vegetable soup complete with carrots, mushrooms, onions, and 'taters.

@RiotKitty

Welcome to the forum :)!

If you want to stay in Sylvan Glade for a few days, you can build a small bedroom/kitchen/bathroom on a small 10X15 lot right next to the round green pond --- with the waterfall on the other side.

To build on hidden lots, like Sylvan Glade or other seemingly locked building lots:
1. turn on the cheat console (cheat box) by pressing control alt c at the same time.
2. type in:    testingcheats on
3. type in:    bb.enablefreebuild.

You may also use this cheat in the Forgotten Grotto, and if you have packs: all the lots in Mangolia Prominade, the Planet Sixam --- if you have Get to Work and all of the lots in Granite Falls --- if you have Outdoor Retreat.

Am I correct in assuming, by living in the grotto (or other area) for a while, the plants become harvestable so I can gather stuffs?  ... if so, that would be sweet. :)

What would be the command line to turn free build off, when I'm done?

I could when my Sims lived in the grotto for a few days.

I don't know how to turn that cheat off --- I don't think you need to.  You could try typing the cheat again, if you need to.

There aren't any plants in either Sylvan Glade or Forgotten Grotto that you can't get somewhere else. If you buy the Always Welcome trait for 500 points, you can basically live at other Sims' houses while you wait for plants to grow. While there, you can work on skills, fish (in most neighborhoods), and make friends.

I would also take a look at this link right here on the site http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/skills/gardening/ for Carl's guide to gardening. It's got all the information about the skill and what type of plants there are and most importantly for you alternate areas for some of those veggies you were looking for.  ;D ;D I use Carl's guides alot for playing my game and they are an incredible help for getting a handle on how to start and work your way up things.

The current workaround for cuttings is if you can harvest the plant and plant it on your own lot, when it grows sufficently, you can take a cutting from that plant and graft it to something right on your lot. I have not tried this since the very latest patch though <1.24.112.1010> so am not 100% certain if this alternate method still works ok or not.

Yes, that still works.

Thanks, All!

I already have level 10 in gardening. I just want to consolidate some plants (and still add new ones) so tending the garden isn't all my sim does in her free time. I agree -- Carl's guides have saved me tons of frustration in lots of areas.

As for harvesting, I think I'll have to camp out in a few areas while I wait for some plants to be ready.
