First thing to do in World Adventures?
« on: March 16, 2011, 11:39:59 AM »
World Adventures is arriving at my house in mere hours and I can't wait to get home from work and start obsessing...er... I mean playing!

With a seemingly endless variety of things to do in this EP, any suggestions on what to do first in World Adventures? Aside from installing it of course.  ;D

And on that same note, any precautions I should take before I start (since I hear it's pretty buggy)?

Thanks!

Hey, stephalina, welcome to the forum. I'm a bit biased with any kind of money-making aspects in the game, so if it were me — I'd be making a beeline for France for Pomegranates and nectar makers to make the 9 life fruit/1 pomegranate nectar on the extended setting on put them in a dark basement for a few weeks.  ;D

I've been fortunate on not actually having any bugs when I travel *knocks on wood*. I recommend backing up first thing. Then go on an adventure exploring a tomb. I really enjoy those.

Consider travelling to China, in the hunt for Pangu's Axe.  Without that magical tool, there are several areas in all 3 countries that you can't access, which will prove to be rather frustrating in the long run.

... and welcome from me too  ;)

Yes, before you do any major tomb raiding, Pangu's (pick)Axe should be a high priority.  Completing the little extra areas on the first pass through is a lot easier than trying to remember where all the areas are that you had to skip, so you can go back and do them.  You should get it pretty quickly, though.

But the first thing I would do after installing it is hit the consignment store to see if you can find the expensive camera there.  It'll pop up there every now and again, and buying it there is cheaper than buying it in Egypt (especially if you're making a special trip for it).  While the photography skill book isn't all that expensive to begin with, I'd buy it anyways if you find it there and have your sims read it.  You can train photography faster by simply taking pictures, but it charges your sims every time they take a picture.  With no skill level in it, most of your photos won't turn out and won't have any value if/when you sell them.  However, if you get to level 3 using the book, it will only cost you $19 simoleans to get there (as opposed to several thousand by taking pictures), and when you do take pictures you'll have a better chance of getting ones that turn out.  While most general pictures you'll take won't be worth a lot, some return is better than no return.

I feel the same as Nicky.  Have fun exploring tombs.  Pangu's Axe is important when exploring, but for me it was difficult.  I gave up and did everything else and had a lot of fun.  Once I was more experienced I now always go after the Axe first.

For me it's the adventure and tomb exploring that made WA. I went to Egypt first but that ended up being a mistake when I couldn't get into certain areas of tombs withough Pangu's Ax. So I would recommend visiting China first for the start of your sims tomb raiding career. An alternative would be France if you want to try nectar making and finding all the different types of grapes.

Well, World Adventures has a lot more to explore than you'd ever consider. It has 3 new skills, Martial Arts being the first. If you like adventuring, first have your Sim visit China. Or Egypt. These are the 2 preferred starter locations. France is a bit tricky, with most of it's tombs being rather difficult. Take Chateu du Landgraab, it's by far the largest tomb in the game. Adventuring can result in visa levels, moneymaking, a vast variety collectibles. More importantly, you'll find new gemstones, metals, bugs and butterflies in the 3 destinations too. Of course, don't forget the population of those places. :)

EDIT: Welcome to the forum, Stephalina! I can't realize I forgot :)

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome and the great ideas. Pangu's Axe sounds pretty necessary, so I'm going for that first. Then nectar making because that just sounds so cool!

Keep them coming, I wont be able to get home and play for at least another hour or two!

Take your time, especially for the quests/adventuring/tomb raiding part of this EP, don't rush through them like I did back in 2009. This is because World Adventure lacks a bit in replayability for me, at least the 'questing' part. For instance, the first adventure in Egypt is usually The Tomb of Discovery, just next to the base camp. The chain of doors/traps to unlock to 'solve' the puzzle of this tomb will always be 100%, exactly the same. So you'll have the most fun the first time you visit it. Same for all the other adventures.

The rest is really nice. The 3 skills are very interesting additions to the game. Then, if you like building or working with CAW, just have a closer look at the 3 destinations. There are lovely details all over the places, even in the tombs.

I'll agree with the majority of the posters here in that the Pangu's Axe adventure can be tricky and a bit confusing for someone not yet familiar with how tombs work.  The guide section of this site has a great walkthrough on that particular adventure.

Go to China.

It has several important things for the starter adventurer:

1. It's the home of Martial Arts.
2. It's the home of Pangu's Axe.
3. It is the home of the "China Exploit".
The first thing you do: Pause the game. Click on the either bookshelf at the base camp. Click "open bookshelf". Click take all. Repeat with the other bookshelf. Grab the stereo. When you get home, sell everything. You'll get around §24,000.

I always make a beeline straight to the Markets to snag any good deals int he Relics and then get the special items for the location so a Good Camera and a Snake Charming Basket in Egypt. A Nectar Maker, Scooter and some Nectar Racks in France. Then in China I get the Martial Arts stuff and a Fortune Cookie machine because every house should have one!  ;D I also gets a good amount of Chests from each location and also the Incense Burners to aid in Skilling for China, Romance for France and overall Mood for Egypt I think.
