Windows update wiped out my household's history
« on: November 01, 2016, 08:13:18 PM »
So, I've been playing a generational house, getting each successive generation (alphabetically named) to do a different LTW, attempting to do all the LTW. When I last left my Sims, (Only Ambitions and WA installed atm, no mods of any kind) there was a brother and a sister living together, each doing a different wish. Windows 10 forced an update on my computer today and when I went to play, my household was...changed.

All the settings on my game (resolution, sounds, lifespan, etc.) were reset. The family tree is completely gone, as if both sims were the 1st generation. The brother and sister are now just friends and have the romantic option with each other! While I wasn't doing an actual challenge, it's disheartening to see that family tree gone.

Is there any way to get it back, or should I just take my sims in the Lannister direction and go from there?

Thank you!

You must have a backup in your saves folder, if you didn't save the broken household more than once. Your save is a folder named nameofyoursave.sims3 and the backup is named nameofyoursave.sims3.backup. When you're not playing, move your save somewhere else, rename your backup like your save by deleting the ".backup". Hopefully the problem should be fixed. If anything is still broken, quit without saving.

I have a feeling the change wasn't update related. As Windows updates can't touch your Sims 3 user folder and can't change the game's game options.

However, if the graphics drivers were updated, that would change some of the game's options, like the resolution, sounds, lifespan, etc. This is to be expected. You will need to change this back manually. Or you can try to restore the game options settings

I'm not sure there is much that can be done about your saved game, unless you regularly make backups of your game saves. If you do, you can go back to a previous save.
