Removing the School
« on: February 26, 2011, 04:20:23 PM »
Does anybody know what would happen if one would destroy the school in a town? Would the kids still have grades?

Yes, and their grades will still slide down. Have a look at Simstar's Churchill Chronicles.

Never mind, I just tested it and it says there are no schools to attend, so no grade slips. Now I'm off the play my 1800's family!

Simstar, that's not enough of a question to be successfully answered.  What is it you're asking?

With a high enough logic, couldn't you theoretically "home school" kids?  Or is tutoring just not enough?

Sorry! :-[

My question is, what would an 1800's family be? And what does it have to do with deleting the school?

There is already a topic for this.

Yes, but I was referring to there being no school in Sydney's town.  I also see that I misred her response, and that it said grades did not decline.  So it's sort of a moot point anyways.

My apologies.  :)

Wow, I didn't know that.  ;D Thanks for the valuable info. And yes, homeschooling does increase grades, but at a lower rate than school.

My 1800's family...
What I did is pratically remove everything from Twinbrook (there is now only a grocery store) and build a few farms. Then I made some families that look like they are from the 1870's.

Do you know what Little House on the Prarie is by Laura Ingalls Wilder? The families are living the lifestyle of back in. Sorry if it sounds confusing!

I removed the school since there was usually no school in the 1870's.

sydney511, there was a school house in 'Little House on the Prairie'.  The children all went to school.  They did their chores in the morning, went to school, then did chores in the evening and ate dinner before doing their homework.  Early in the evening they went to bed and repeated everything the next day.

The school house had one room and all children/grades were taught by one teacher. When an actual school house wasn't available (or hadn't been built yet), the children were taught in the church.   Laura Ingalls was so impressed by her teachers that she decided to become a teacher too.

It may have been the 1870's, but schools (and proper schooling) were what separated the townsfolk from the 'savages' ;).

Of course, you can play your town and families any way you wish.  I just thought I would clarify that period in time for you.

There were schools in 1800s too. For example, take 'The Salem House' school in the book David Copperfield.

Oh yeah... forgot about that  :-\ The school seems too big, though.

Locking now, though. Got my answer!  :)
