Writing is Supposed to be Fun!
« on: November 28, 2010, 09:31:01 PM »
My vampire child, Blossom Adkins, is a master writer. Her first book, a kids book called Clair De Lune was a big hit, so I'm having her write a mystery novel called The Case of the Stolen Scepter. However, I noticed that her Fun meter was decreasing while she was writing. She's a bookworm, and maxed the Writing skill, so why's she not like writing? ???

Writing does not provide fun for any Sim — no matter their traits. Reading does, but not writing. That's why it's so important for a writer to have other things going on nearby to provide Mood Meter boosts — their favorite music and some good decoration are easy fixes.

Round it off with some computer games while they're sitting at the computer anyways!

Neurotic is one of the very best traits for writers.  Just a brief little "freak out" and they will be all set for 8 hours of stress free writing.

It works to use "master of the arts" as a lifetime wish for writing sims, too.  When they get stressed about writing, send them to the easel to fill up the fun bar again.  When they've had fun painting, back to the computer.

Actually, there's a LTW for that.  Illustrious Author.  Goal is to max painting and writing.

Bah, that's what I meant, sorry!  I got the LTW names mixed up.

Having a stereo playing their favourite music nearby can help to improve their mood, but their fun will still go down. I usually try to have them entertained ("having a blast" moodlet) before they sit down to write as this lengthens the amount of time they can write for before getting too bored. 8)
As a side note, having just completed my nursing degree I found even when writing essays about something I am passionate about and really interested in I found it really difficult to even stay focused sometimes, never mind having fun while doing it! I never tried having a stereo on in the background though.  ;)

Thanks for the useful tip, nemmer, and welcome to the forum!

If you make your sim a couch potato, that will also make it easier for them to be a writer as couch potatoes get double the mood boost from their chair.

Just another thought, because this seems to be effective with my inventor - the incense from Egypt slows down fun decay, right?  Seems like that would help a writer write for longer, too.

I'm running into this problem now that I'm working on my second Sim with the Professional Author LTW. Not to be crude or anything, but I find a quick WooHoo with their partner is a quick way to refill the Sim's fun bar. It's super convenient if you have a Hopeless Romantic or Flirty Sim with a happy partner and you keep the writing desk in the bedroom.

Ha ha. It's not crude at all. Woo Hoo is a great pre-work technique I use all the time in challenges. Although it's obvious when Late Night was released that EA did some serious Woo Hoo tweaking — it still provides the monster fun boost, but the social bar does not hit the cap quite as easily as pre-Late Night.

Thanks for all the comments, you guys. Lesse...
  • Music and decorations: I can use that, as she's also a painter.
  • Computer games: I can use that, too. Does chess boost fun as well? She's also maxed logic.
  • Neurotic: That doesn't really fit the personality I imagine her having. Plus, she's not going to age up for a while.
  • Couch potato: Same as above
  • Incense: That'll be good, once I get enough money to send them to Egypt.
  • Woohoo: That sound like a good way, but she's currently single, and only a child. :P
Again, thank you! ;D
