My Sims don't wish to have a baby
« on: September 01, 2016, 11:07:46 AM »
It's the first time I have this problem with a couple, and I can't count the number of large families I've played with. These two are married, they're very romantic together (and autonomously), they live together, they have a very happy life, a nice house, they have more than enough money, they're both family oriented, they're faithful (although they don't have the moodlet since they regularly travel). They wished to have a first child only a few days after getting married. They're both good so I decided to make them do a good deed : adopt a toddler. Now the toddler is going to celebrate his birthday soon. I play in epic mode so my Sims are parents for about 70 days now. What's strange is that they never wished to have a second child. They have plenty of romantic wishes, but they never wish to have a baby despite being family oriented and having the longest lifespan possible... How come ? I'm surprised and a bit disappointed. I'd really like them to want to adopt other kids. Is there a way to have a higher chance to trigger this wish ?... Could it be because I made them adopt instead of making them try for a baby ?

I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking it's because of a game hiccup. The only thing I can think of that might help is to reset everything.

Reset Town, Individual Sims and/or Evict Household

However, I can't promise this will help trigger specific wishes to come.

Thank you for the help :)
I tried all of these with MS, none worked  :( I also made them move to a larger house, as I wondered if their house wasn't considered too small (only two bedrooms, with just one bed and one crib), but it didn't work either. I moved the family to my library and started a new save with them, even that didn't work. I found the only way to trigger the wish : I changed their LTWs to "surrounded by family", and one hour after they already thought about having a second baby. I originally wanted them to have only 3 kids instead of 5, so I guess I'll change their LTWs back once they have 3 kids... Weird how this game seems to have a mind of its own sometimes LOL.

I find it doesn't matter how small their house is, how many beds there are, or their LTW is if they want babies, the wish will pop up. My gardener Sim is this way. Even after having 4 kids.

I wonder if doing a factory reset and creating a new game with the family (with their original LTW) would help.

If you have them backed up I could test this for you? You can attach the file to your post and once downloaded we can delete if you like.

I'll try this. This save is full of mods, CC and in a custom world, and even though I always check that they work well, I'd like to see if one of them might have done that (although I doubt that a mod affecting gameplay could have done that as I use them in all my saves - but there is one in particular that I suspect could potentially do that, and I'd like to check this). That would also explain why the dad (who is adventurous) very rarely wishes to travel to China, Egypt or France although he still regularly wishes to use the time portal. He does wish to travel, but so rarely that it's a bit strange with this trait. And this doesn't happen in my other saves with adventurous sims.
If I find something, I'll post it here.
Anyway, changing their LTW temporarily helped. They adopted a second child and as soon as both wished for a third baby, I changed their LTWs back and they've kept the wish for a third child.

Yep, do your testing and report the findings. I'm curious to know what's up with your game.

So, I haven't found exactly what causes this yet (I still have to test some mods), but I found something interesting. I played here withno mods except NRaas ones because I needed them to recreate the family correctly with .sim files as the mom's and household files were corrupt. (It wasn't fixable)
So, I found that whether a trait is one of the 5 main traits or a trait gained at university changes the frequency of wishes. Both sims are family oriented, but the dad has the trait as one of his 5 main traits and the mom gained it with her degree. She always wishes to have children less frequently than her husband, and always later. About wishes to travel, the mom isn't adventurous but she wishes to travel from time to time ; the dad has the adventurous trait (gained from his degree) and he wishes to travel much more rarely than his wife. So I suppose that there's an issue with university traits ? Unless if it was intended by the game to make university traits less "strong" than the 5 "core" traits ?

So, I tested all my mods and my sims both wished to have kids several times. Seems like I'll never know what happened in one of my saves...
There is still the strange almost absence of wishes to travel that seems related to university traits. I always have this problem whatever mods I use (or don't use).
