Windfall of Expensive Cars!
« on: November 22, 2010, 07:41:47 PM »
Hi! I'm posting this message here because the "phenomenon" happened with LN installed.  One of my accomplished Sims attained their LTW in Sunset Valley. To my great surprise, her inventory got filled with expensive cars (two kinds, cant recall the names) around ten cars along with the reward points. Because she was happy with her own red SUV, she sold off her cars in the inventory by deleting them in the garage.  So the Sim family became richer. Now, her father , already the Leader of the Free World whose LTW is to "Live in the Lap of Luxury" also attained his LTW with all those cash going into their household because of the cars sold by his daughter. LO and BEHOLD!  When I looked into his inventory, there were those expensive cars again! Ten of them! So he sold those cars too, (he was happy with the vintage car he got from Fast Lane). Now the family is absolutely swimming in cash, they were rich to begin with and the money is now more than they could ever hope for! Not that the Sim family is complaining (they're thinking of buying a vacation house or buying more business property, they might end up owning SV!). Has this happened to anyone before? Is this really natural when a Sim attains his LTW? All those cars?  Thanks for your replies!

Although this happened since you installed Late Night, it's not really a specific Late Night issue.  I'm moving this thread to the Miscellaneous Help board.

Was your sim a celebrity?

I know my 5 Star sims get expensive gifts regularly. Including top end cars.

I'll check if they are celebrities, but I havent played them as such. I mean, they didn't participate in any celebrity building activities like impressing the other celebrities and opportunities.  Unless achievement of LTW will make one "instant" celebrities. I'll check. :)

Even if the cars came as a result of celebrity, you would have gotten a notice about it.  I think it's probably a bug, considering you don't run any mods or 3rd party custom content.  This is the first I've heard of it, though.

I checked whether the family were celebrities. The answer is NO. Not even a single celebrity star, although when they went out, the father who is a Leader of the World was recognized by a townie (I know coz a positive moodlet came out saying, he was happy he got recognized) . I reckon only celebrities get that moodlet, I may be wrong.

Here's another strange thing that occurred with this family, they both got expensive cars as their Best Friend (the father got his vintage car as his BFF)!!! When I looked at their list of friends, there was the CAR! (listed as a Best Friend)!!!(among the other Sims they know) So strange!

I have NO mods, no CCs, I'm clean.  Is this a bug again? Or does this happen when a Sim attains their LTW? Or when a Sim household becomes so rich? Does this happen normally with Fast Lane (maybe?) . Truth is, they have no best friends with other Sims (sad to say), the father and daughter dont even get along too well, I dunno, so strange... What do you think?  ???

Having a car as a friend is a result of Fast Lane.  If a Sim drives a lot, a relationship develops with the car.  It can even be named.  The Vehicle Enthusiast trait makes it happen faster, but it happens with any Sim.

I, too, don't run any mods and am having the same issue with cars.  I have all the packs, but on a NEW computer with only Base and the current patch, I still get cars.  I don't always get expensive ones.... I do sell them to move the family into nicer digs. Usually there is someone in the household that is a thief or wants to be.  I don't know if they are trafficking in stolen goods or not, but all the cars depreciate at the same rate, so selling them stops the loss.

Thanks for the reminder kestie! I'll sell my Sims cars in her inventory so they won't lose money from depreciation.

[Bug?] Unwanted Cars keeps sims inventory full
« Reply #9 on: November 30, 2010, 01:17:57 PM »
Hello,

I just realized that my other household on the same neighborhood (Sunset Valley) mysteriously had so many cars on their inventory.
Almost every single person in the household are carrying about 5-15 cars  :o . Like sloppy jallopy and big lemon type. (Which I didn't buy.)
Even creepier is, I just sell them off, and presto, they keep coming back, by a split second.

Anybody experiencing this? Any solution? I'm using the latest patch. and no Mod/hack.

Thank you.

Yes, it's a bug that's been reported on other forums. Apparently, with LN, the game generates a new car every time a Sim drives somewhere and they then go into their inventory once all the parking spots are filled. I don't know of any non-mod fixes.

actually i do not have the LN expansion yet, but i do have latest patch for base Sims 3, [1.17], is that mean technically I'm playing the latenight executable?
i thought, LN came out after the 1.17 patch? I'm guessing fastlane is the culprit. but before i read your post (lilygirl), i do, maybe, found the solution, i changed my active household to the one with so many cars on their inventory, this household has 9 sims, 8 of them are capable of driving, so each of them have a car (which i never buy), some have like 15 "big lemon" cars. what I did is, i sold them off, and leave only 1 car per sims. i bought the parking spot and scatter them all over the house, put each car from each sims to the parking spot, and one by one, each sims, i clicked the car and clicked the "Make preffered car", so every sims has the "preffered car". and now i read your post saying "the parking spots are filled" maybe my guess is right. have you tried this? because so far, i do not see their cars multiplying yet. and i don't know is this just my feeling or true, but after deleting all that magic cars, my stutter (which many people are suffering) are reduced.

of course that "solution" was just my hunch. but I just want to share.

Thankyou.

(i do apologize if i made any grammar mistake on this post, because I'm not good in past tense)
(any critic will be great, since i have to learn english, thankyou)

My Sims have their preferred cars parked in the garage before the cars windfall happened.  However, when I deleted the extra cars, they didn't return or keep duplicating in the inventory (so far). What I have noticed in other households is that each working Sim has a car in their inventory , same car that they use to go to work (lemon). I thought it came with the job (a service car). I'm not certain whether all these extra cars happened with FL or LN because I bought the games close in time together, so I can't tell which caused this occurrences. ???

Well, I don't have Fast Lane or LN installed so it has to be a problem with one of the patches. My Dynasty file is becoming unbearably slow to play of late and, because edit town is off limits, I can't check if this is the problem.

Assigning cars to each household member may be a good solution but you have to constantly go back when a new household moves in or they have children aging up to teens (and can now drive.) It's a lot of work for a programing problem and edit town mode is off-limits for the Dynasty and other official challenges. Meaning, it's going to be agonizing to finish any of the longer ones.

What I meant by "once all the parking spots are filled" is all the parking spots around town on community lots. I've noticed them filling up in my Dynasty town. And all the cars are Jalopy or Lemon ones.
