Starting a new game, Does the old game disappear?

I apologize if this has been asked before but google doesn't seem to understand my question. I didn't know that the game ages everyone and I lost the Goths and quite a few other sims. Id like to start a new game however quite a few of my sims have tons of stuff unlocked and I don't want to lose them. When I start a new will I lose all my sims or will they be saved? Thank you!

You can start a new game by clicking on the + sign in the upper right hand corner.

If you want your current sims to be in that game, you can save them to the Library. If you go to the Gallery in your new game, your sims will be there. They will have their skills and their current job levels, but won't have anything that they've owned. They'll only have  $20,000, but you can use a money cheat to bring that up. I think your career rewards will be unlocked, but you'll have to buy them.
