If anyone knew this already or been posted before, I'm sorry.  But there is a beta world creator that's coming out.  It lets you design the world and stuff.

complete details here

Looks fun, hope it works better than the latest patches.  Not sure if I want it while it's still Beta though, could be very buggy.

Yes, it sounds awesome, I don't know how much freedom it will give you, it would be great if you could edit what stores sell, but I'd be happy with just terrain modification and a lot creation tool.

Either way, it's got a lot of potential. How about...

An NWO disastopia. Police and Military stations all around, with apartment style living areas. Fences, moats and guard towers surround the border, to ensure nobody gets in, nobody gets out.(come to think of it, I could put some zombies/mummies on the outside, that would be awesome). No personal food reserves allowed, residents must come to the central civillian order station to receive medical attention and rations. To top it off, parents couldn't keep their own kids, they would all be sent to my nursery where the strongest will be sent to special military nurseries where they will learn to be cold, heartless machines of war!

HAHAHAHA! I'm soo evil!!!

Yeah, I can't wait for this editor.

This is nice but I'm afraid I'm too lazy to use those kinds of tools, sometimes I'm even too lazy to build a house.

In Sims 2 you could create a terrain in Sim City 4 and then import it to Sims to use as a new neighborhood, very cool actually. I had Sim City 4 installed and everything but I never got around to doing this. :-[

This isn't something I would personally use because I just don't have enough imagination and creativity.  But one of the cool things about Sims 3 is that there are people who love to build and design (and they sometimes don't play the game at all).  I'd love to download their creations from the Exchange and play them.  I do that sometimes with houses others build.  It's a fun way for me to experience stunning architecture with my Sims that I could never create myself.

I have created some designs. Have you tried the "ship in a bottle" I tried it and loved it!

It'd be fun to make an island or a prison camp surrounded by mountains. o.O

Deserted Island with only two Sims. One male, one female.... you must populate the island and become successful.  Lol.  Sounds like a challenge. :P

If you made a blank map with numerous empty houses, then you could build a family and have them fill up the town.

I'd probably try to create my home town and see if it was more fun in game than in real life. ;D

I did try the whole SimCity4 thing and it wasn't bad.  I loved that I could choose the road layout and make green spaces wherever I wanted.  I hope this new tool works as well.

I don't think that would be possible sadly. :(
You'd have to turn off story progession so that families don't move in to balance out the town, but if you do that your family members that you moved out wouldn't have kids on their own.

I wish there was a more in-depth selection with the story progession option.

there are several mods available which modify story progression and allow for more options. I recommend searching a bit. I personally use awesomemod.
