Can someone translate a chat bubble for me?
« on: June 27, 2017, 04:26:24 PM »
Hey everyone  :)

Many times when my sims are conversing with each other I see a chat bubble over their heads, it is a "no" symbol, you know the red circle with a red line going across it diagonally? They often have this "no" symbol with their own picture under it, or maybe the "no" symbol with a picture of a sim they are talking to, or that symbol over the picture of a sim standing near by.  Does anyone know what this means?

Thanks!

The only thing I can think of is that they don't like the person?

Hey  :)

I was thinkin that too, but, the "no" symbol often times is over their own picture, of themselves.

Most recently, my sim was with her girlfriend, they get along great, are in love, have full green and pink bars all the time with each other, yet, last conversation they had together, her gf had the "no" symbol chat bubble with my sims picture under it, and then with her own, and then my sim had it with her own picture, and then with her gf's picture.  Errghh, this is driving me batty!

Again the only thing I can think of is maybe not liking the person at the moment or not liking themselves or something along those lines. It's probably nothing to be overly concerned about if they get along well and have a good relationship.

mm, could be.  They show no relationship decline at all.  The chat bubbles are hard to figure out sometimes for sure.  Not liking yourself I had wondered about, but then I dismissed it thinking that the Sims probably didn't go that in depth, but, maybe they do.

Another one is the trash bag, that comes up a lot.  Often when my sim is first meeting someone else, upon the very first introduction, she has that trash bag picture over top of her head, even when the area they are in has no trash.  Could it be she thinks of herself as being trashy? Geeze I wouldn't have guessed that the Sim software would have that much depth to it

That depends. If it's a paper bag, it means they're embarrassed. If it's an actual trash can it means there is dirty surroundings.

On that one, it is not the trash can, but the bag of trash, and they could be standing right in a bran new place I just built for them, like, they move in, don't even get a chance to go inside, a neighbor comes along, they introduce themselves and she has the trash bag symbol over her head.  I had wondered if she was thinking that the person she is talking to is trashy maybe? But, then again, those are not thought bubbles, they are actual chat bubbles, so, it doesn't seem like she would be telling a new acquaintance that he or she is trashy.

Too bad they didn't put out a log with all of the chat bubbles and thought bubbles in it for us

Hmm.. That makes me want to search on this to see what I can find.. As I can maybe understand a Sim *thinking* another Sim is trashy, but to say it out loud to another Sim?!

Though if you have Sims 4 Parenthood game pack that might (?) be possible.

Hi @CrystalMay :)

Maybe you could try and interpret those bubbles as the Sims merely expressing something harmless but less favored about the Sim in question? For instance, during a friendly conversation I could casually mention something I'm not good at or something you could improve in your life. I don't think you need to assume that your Sims are downright opposed to one another or dislike themselves. It wouldn't make any sense either since they can chat smiling while having that symbol in their bubble and have their bars full and seem happy.

Yah, it's definitely mysterious. And it happens a LOT, like so so often.  Most of the chat bubbles I can figure out, but the "no" symbol over my sims own head, and the trash bag are really grating at me, have been for awhile, it just got to the point today I said, ok, that's it! I am going to a sims forum and see if anyone knows what this is  lol

There's not much details given on the chat or thought bubbles, but I did find this thread on the official Sims forum.

Details on thought bubbles?
http://forums.thesims.com/en_us/discussion/879688/details-on-thought-bubbles

It might (?) give a little insight to what they mean.

To be honest, most thought bubbles in The Sims 4 are quite random. There has been some improvement of linking the thought bubbles to the sims actions in more recent patches and dlc drops etc but a lot of the time they are quite unrelated.

If your sims is in a flirty conversation, even if they do not have a flirty moodlet and a third sim joins the conversations sim will picture on of the other sims with a red line through them indicating that someone is being the third wheel basically. More often than not though the game chooses the incorrect sim to identify as the third wheel resulting in the sims partner being crossed out instead of the other non-romantically involved sim.

Thank you MrsFlynn, that was interesting.

Playalot, the third wheel makes sense.  I will have to watch them again and see if the no symbol comes up when someone joins the conversation.  Some of them could be just random too.
