Stay at Home Moms
« on: January 03, 2016, 09:46:12 PM »
My current family is fitted with two child age daughters, a dad who works and a stay at home mom!

My question for you guys is, what do you have your lovely mom's do while the kids are at work? I've been considering giving her a hobby, but not sure exactly what.

There are so many things to do it a tough one to answer. And depends on your interests. If you want something for to make money on. Painting and gardening are good.
Just wanting to kill some time while everyone else is gone. Maybe get the Curator Aspiration and go collecting and fishing.
Myself, If I have a stay at home parent I get into a little of everything to keep getting burnt out on one certain thing. Fish one day, go exploring the next, work on skills or go meet new sims. And keep changing the aspiration around to get different goals to work towards.
A clear conscience is usually a sign of a bad memory.

Hi Callinsto, welcome to the forum. Grimsoul gave such a good answer I don't know if I can add anything useful to it but when I have a stay at home sim I use them to try out all the skills I don't usually play as well as visiting different townies homes and making friends etc. It's quite fun to have a 'social sim' who completes the Friend of The World aspiration or something like that.
Usually my stay at home sim is responsible for all the gardening too.

My stay at home sims will work on painting or gardening (or both) and I'll use the time to go to the spa or guy on certain days.  Like RL people.  Having a girlfriend over for lunch or meeting somewhere for lunch.  I really like a family to play in Sims where I can enjoy active play with several sims but also, during the day, enjoy solo sim play.

My stay at home mom usually levels up on cooking and gardening or painting. I like having her to play while all others are out and about.

I do the opposite and have a stay-at-home dad. I choose either/or/a little of each of the following:
Cooking/gardening- for sustenance
woodcrafting, painting, collecting- decoration around the house

I actually prefer my sims to not go to work at all...except there are stuff that i can only access if they are working and get promoted. Since I don't want to do cheats for those things, I have at least one sim working.

As everyone has already said, I just have them do random skills and activities. And if I have a garden, my stay-at-home simmie will usually be the main caretaker.

Another option is to buy a retail lot and have the stay-at-home sim be mainly responsible for producing, gathering, or collecting things to sell at the shop.
As others have advised elsewhere, don't open the shop while one of your household sims is working because that seems to slow down the at-work sim's progress toward promotion.
When no one's at work, the shop can be opened and run by your household sims.
