Are media card readers needed for Sims?
« on: December 26, 2015, 10:18:26 AM »
My new computer doesn't have a media card reader.  I did some reading and it is a slot where a card can be inserted with info on it (showing my ignorance here   :)  ).  Found out that I have one on my old computer that I have used for the card from my camera.

Do I need one for sims (or even other games), or does it not matter.  Should I get one, an external one with multiple slots?

I don't think you do. If I have one, I don't know about it.

You don't need a memory card reader for Sims or other games.

They are very useful to have for other things, like your camera. So it maybe worth looking into getting an external one.

Media Card readers are for all intents and purposes, obsolete.  MOST media card using devices can be plugged in via usb cable anyways and will function as their own reader.

If you haven't needed on before, I wouldn't bother buying one.  That being said, internal units are far superior to external units, but more time consuming for initial set up.  For what it's worth, most laptops have an SD slot, and most micro/mini SD's can be adapted to fit said slot.

I don't know of any game using SD, however it is a nice tidy little format if you don't like USB key's for transferring files/backing up save files.
