Installing Sims on Two Computers
« on: October 24, 2015, 03:51:16 PM »
I am hoping I can get a new computer in the spring.  I will be buying sims 4 but I want to also install sims 3 on it.
Would I need to buy another game; or can I install my old one on the new computer and keep it also on the old one?  Would I also be able to transfer all of my saved towns, remodeled homes and saved families?
I plan to set up my old computer in another area where the grandkids can play on it when they come to visit.  I have various games on it for them to play and they already have sims games in different towns.

I don't think there would be a problem with putting it on both of my computers if it can be done; I paid for the game and expansion packs and the computers will both be mine.

Hi Janna,

You can have both Sims 3 and 4 installed on two computers. No need to repurchase either game. They should show up in Origin, ready for download, when you reinstall Origin.

Yes, you can transfer old save games and whatnot as long as you have both your Sims 3 folder and Sims 4 folders saved. Back these folders to a save place like a usb memory stick. So you can move them over to your new computer.

Save these folders -- \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3
                            -- \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

Note: If you find that you want to play Sims or other Origin games at the same time on both computers. You will need to set one of the computers to offline mode. ["Offline" mode -- In the Origin Client, go to the Origin Menu and select Go Offline.]

In the reference links below it gives information on how to uninstall/reinstall and what files/folders to save for the games so you can use them on the new computer.

Hope this helps, :)

Thanks for the info and also for moving this for me.
Will cut and paste it to a word file so I will have it handy.
