Will This Laptop Work for Sims 4 + Expansions?
« on: October 12, 2015, 09:30:52 PM »
I really hate to have to post this, but I am extremely confused and not that great with technology specifics.
I was wondering if this laptop would work well with The Sims 4, and work well with expansion packs and custom content?

OR

I have a desktop that I have my Sims 2 games on. But it is a Windows Vista, with 6GB RAM and plenty of GB space available. I have never had it connected to the internet before, and for the life of me cannot figure out how to do so.

Which should be my best option?
I'm not much of a gamer. I only play The Sims games. And I'm a college student and don't have much extra money to work with. I was hoping I could find something cheaper than $400, but that doesn't seem to be an option....

I wouldn't recommend this laptop for Sims at all. As these types of laptops aren't made for gaming.

However, you maybe able to find a desktop for about $400, that will run Sims 4 without too many problems. Given that you already have a monitor that you can use.

If you would like help searching for a desktop, please let us know. We'd be happy to help!! :)

Help would actually be amazing!
I'm sorry to be such a bother like this.
I don't know if this helps, but my current desktop and monitor are HP.

Nah, you're fine. :)

Is your desktop anything close to these specs?

2.5Ghz or better
8 - 16GB Memory (anymore than that won't help game performance.)
GTX model video card with at least 2GB of dedicated video memory.
-Or-
AMD R6 graphics, R7 graphics with at least 2GB of dedicated memory.

If not, we'll have to see what we can find. As you'll have better overall game play with less problems than if you were to try to play the game with just minimum or less than minimum specs.

If you're not sure how to find your system specs, here's a thread that will help.

Topic: How To: Find System Specs - Windows 8 & 7
http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,21030.0.html

What information we're looking for is:

------------------
System Information:
------------------
System Manufacturer & System Model:
Processor:
Memory:
Operating System:
---------------
Display Devices:
---------------
Card name:
Manufacturer:
Chip type:

Display Memory:
Dedicated Memory:
Shared Memory:
Current Mode:

Before I go to start looking, can you tell me what country your in? This will help in knowing whether to look on Amazon.com or amazon.co.uk - for example. And what is your max budget?

Also remember about Pets and Seasons expansion. While they are not released yet it is good to take precaution (if you aim to have as many expansion as possible). Choosing a bare minimum specs is not recommended as in the past many players are frustrated of the glitch or performance issues they encounter when they install those two expansions.

Thank you so much! You're such a big help here.
I live in the USA.
My max budget isn't very high, I'd say around $500 max.

We maybe able to work with what you've got if you're handy with switching parts out of your pc or have a friend to help out. - This is what we did for our first couple of Simming pcs. Added a video card and power supply. The reason for the power supply is so we know there's enough power to run the video card plus other components in your system.

EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti = Price: $119.99

EVGA 500W Power Supply 100-W1-0500-KR = Price: $39.99

Don't worry if you're not able to switch computer parts out or not comfortable with that. I was able to find this desktop on Amazon for close to your budget that should do pretty well for Sims 4.

CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3100A Gaming Desktop =    $505.87
- AMD FX-4300 Quad Core 3.8GHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, 24X DVD, AMD R7 240 2GB, Windows 10 Home
--
http://www.amazon.com/CyberpowerPC-Gamer-GUA3100A-Gaming-Desktop/dp/B0111MTSZ8

- AMD FX-4300 3.80GHZ
- 8GB Memory
- AMD Radeon R7 240 2GB Video Card
++ Medium Settings with an in-game resolution of 1366x768

And Dodi is right, trying to play any game on bare minimum specs is very frustrating to say the least - that's why I'm always recommending something better. :)

Hope this helps,

MrsFlynn
