Can you safely plant crops next to each other?
« on: August 12, 2015, 10:28:59 PM »
I can't find an online guide on gardening that's very detailed.  I've looked on Gamefaqs, as well as Carl's site that this forum is connected to. And nothing.

I was wondering ... if I place a bed right next to a wall, and on the other side of the bed, I place a similarly-sized table, I won't be able to use that bed to sleep in because my Sim will have no way of getting to it.

Does this also work for crops? Do I need to include some empty space in between plants to allow my sim to access each crop, or could I simply place each crop side-by-side, and allow my Sim to walk over the crops without fear of trampling them?

You can plant rows but there has to be a space of at least one unit between the rows. It's also a good idea to give a break in the rows every here and there so the sim can traverse the field. Rows can even be back-to back but one side of each plant must be exposed and accessible.

If multiple sims will be working in the garden, give them space to get around each other. You don't want them bumping into each other.

Sims can not walk over a plant, no matter how small it is. They will crouch down to work on a plant, stepping right through the one next to it but they won't ever be routed over them. A row of small plants may as well be a hedge wall. Note that the sims will get upset if they can't get to a plant so watch them if in doubt.

You can move and reposition plants and trees all you want in buy/build mode. I often plant "unknown" seeds in rows and then move them into organized groups once I know what the plants are going to be. Trees look best with three or four spaces between them but they can grow right next to each other.
