Screen Size issue - Mac Mini
« on: April 04, 2016, 11:27:38 AM »
Hello,

I am playing the Sims 3 with the Nightlife expansion on a Mac Mini 2015. I'm having a screen issue as my Mac is connected to my flat screen HDMI hook up. All the text is super small and even in windowed mode, I can barely read anything. It's putting a strain on my eyes and experience. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tired resetting the resolution on my TV and Mac. I've even gone into the options and changed it, but nothing is working.

I also don't have the internet at home, so the game isn't updated from when I brought the disc. I am going to download the patch at work and put it on a flash drive and take it home, but I don't know if that would work. It's the bundle of Sims 3/Nightlife/High End loft stuff.

Mac specifics:
1.4GHz Processor
500 GB Storage
1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
4GB memory
500GB hard drive1
Intel HD Graphics 5000
OS X El Capitan

TV:
Sanyo 44 inch

Please help.

Thank you for letting us know what you've tried. That's very helpful!! I'll need to pm a Mac friend to see if she can help with this problem. As when we hooked ours up to the tv it didn't have this issue. We have our resolution set to: 1920x1080.

This link may help:

Also, this (for Yosemite - previous version of Moc OS/X):

Try holding down the Option key when in the Display preferences, then click the newly available Detect Displays button.  Worked on my Mac Mini with Acer AL1714 - before doing this I was given a range of resolutions that was not the 1280x1024x75hz that the monitor runs native.

The thing is I don't have a lot of options. I have 1080i, 1080p, 720p and 1024x560. That's it. I've tired all of them and everything is ether huge or tiny. And it's just the game. My Mac looks just fine.

The game only gives me three options, but the size never changes.

I'm gonna try the other option when I get home.

That is strange. I haven't heard of that issue. Have you tried manually changing the screen resolution?:

We tried both troubleshooting tips for ourselves as well as changing the options via the options.ini file and none of it worked.

From what we can tell Sims 3 on the Mac does not support the same resolutions as Sims 3 on Windows. This seems to be due to resolution limits in Mac OS.

At least, running the game on Windows with Bootcamp is still an alternative.
