Can't install Default Eyes
« on: July 01, 2015, 09:42:05 AM »
Hello, I'm not too sure if this should be in technical help or not, but I figured it was best here.

I have acquired new default eyes but I can't seem to make them show up in-game.
I used to have the Tiffany eyes but wanted to try new ones, so I removed the package file for the default eyes and put the new one in my package folder, then deleted my cache files, but it still doesn't work. I've looked it up online but nothing seems to help  :-\

I'm on PC and all my other CCs show up, I also have all expansion packs and a few NRAAS mods.

Have you tried starting a new game, or seeing if the new eyes are applied after you take sims to CAS or the dresser?

Yes I tried that, they still don't show up :( I've ran Delphy's to make sure they weren't corrupt or conflicting(I created the eyes) but its fine.

The only thing I can think of is that I messed up while creating them, but I know I didn't o.O unless I'm supposed to somehow save them as a sims3pack before changing them into a package file, which I have no idea how to do.

I found this tutorial about making default eyes, might help you find out what is wrong with yours.

Skimming through it the possible likely reasons for them not showing up are wrong type of DDS file, needs DTX3 or DTX5, or possibly a syntax error in your image file name, they must exactly match the default game texture names.

I've fiddled with skins before but not eyes, I know with those I had to keep the names exactly as the originals. Fortunately CmarNYC made a utility for packaging those, it doesn't do eyes though.

TSR Workshop makes sims3packs but I doubt the package file itself is the issue.

Hehe Turoskel, this is exactly the tutorial I followed :P
I saved them as DTX3 files, is it possible it could work as DTX5 instead?

Oddly enough, when I load new project in TSR Workshop, my eyes show up on the Sim "dummy" so it's as if the Workshop recognizes it as my default texture without me doing a single thing, but not the game itself.

I will try it. I found this http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_3:DXT_Compression_Types which seems to explain that face Overlays would have to be DXT5 so it would make sense.

I will update you on the result.

Edit:: I know they don't show up in-game, but maybe in CAS. I just can't decide because I can't quite remember how the default eyes look in CAS. :-/ Either way the point is to have them to show up in both places.
